It is a franchi 48al 20 ga 28". One of the lightest 20 gauge guns every produced. 5lbs 9 oz out of the box. A dream to carry all day. Super reliable. Have 700 through it without cleaning. Trying to find out when it will stop but it just keeps on going. 5,000 shells I have only had a couple jams, all within the first 500 rounds I fired. Check out rimfire central. You can pick up used fix choke ones for about 300 to 400. Or I paid 615 new with choke tubes. There is a reason it has been made since 1948.

First shotgun of the collection. Mossberg 590a1 20" w/ bead sight. Need to look into sling mounts, sling, possibly a Hogue 12" LOP stock and a bayonet. Last edited by Andy Guy; 10-05-2013 at 9:48 PM.. |

NICE! I just converted my 930 SPX to a 24" non ported JM Pro barrel. The first barrel they sent me was damaged and used. The second one was pretty but it had been assembled without the steel gas recoil spring in it. Seriously how the **** does that even happen. We're now on the third try and still haven't gotten the barrel back yet.
This isn't even counting the six months it took to get the defective SPX barrel it came with new with the crooked front sight replaced. My patience with Mossberg and Maverick Arms is very thin right now. I hope you get better luck with yours. P.S. how many rounds does it hold with that extender? I still have the +2 Choate on mine which gives me 7+1. Last edited by Rotten; 10-19-2013 at 1:42 PM.. |

My Saiga 12 project from last year, complete with russian optics. It was really just for fun but I'm thinking it might make a good pig gun.

The third barrel took a month to get and it also turned out to be both scratched and used. If you need spares, be aware that Mossberg has a surplus of such barrels and will try to foist them off on you hoping you won't notice. After a heated email indicating I wanted only a brand new barrel unopened in the original packaging I got it in only four days still coated in cosmoline. Took over three months and four try's for them to do something as simple as sell me a new barrel. They never sent a call tag for the last one either so I guess I have an extra 24" barrel now.
Still, I won't be purchasing any new Mossbergs ever again. :-/ Some crappy before and after pics to keep with thread content. Last edited by Rotten; 11-11-2013 at 9:08 AM.. |

The Elite Tactical Advantage safety and Nordic bolt charging handle are both great additions to the 930 although the retention on the bolt handle could be a little better. It has fallen out once during use.

Originally a $100 pawn shop gun. Started out as all wood Revelation 310a (early 1970's variation of Mossberg 500). It would fire when rounds fed into chamber by hand but wouldnt cycle next round from feeding tube. Bought cheap used receiver parts kit from gun broker and now it feeds completely reliably. The receiver is refinished the Brownells Alumahyde Semo Gloss Black. Reblued the magazine tube. Added the heat shield. The buttstock is an OD green Hogue butt stock with shell holder on the side. The front sight bead was missing too. Had a new hole threaded and new bead put in. Took off the C-lect-a-choke (variable choke) barrel and added a shorter used one I got cheap off eBay for barely 100 shipped right before the panic. The foreend is the original one. I refinished it in many coasts of amber shellac I had left from refinishing AK furniture. I cant forget to also mention the original firing pin that came with it was actually a nail! It struck the primer reliably too but swapped it for real firing pin when I got the used receiver parts bag with the rest of the better condition stuff. |

Old-school "tactical" and newer. My 870 Police Magnum 18.5" with a bead sight, factory extension and walnut furniture with a Limbsaver recoil pad.
Pictured with my newest purchase, Mossberg 590A1 20-inch heavy-barrel with the Speedfeed stock, ghost ring sights. Rem. 870P may stay stock, save for a barrel clamp upgrade and a more robust follower. Moss. 590A1 may be upgraded with a Magpul stock, high-visibility follower and a bayonet, naturally. |

Here's my 590A1 i picked up on the 19th. Have a Hogue 12" LOP stock coming in tomorrow. The factory one is too damn long for my 5'6" build.

Some oldies... My grandfather's, great uncles, and great grandfather's model 12s. And an 1100 for good measure.
That's a cutts compensator on a 20 gauge.

Project Shotguns
In starting preparations to move out of the People's Republik, I dug these projects out of the back of my safe and finally got them functional again.
Front: Stevens 94B .410 manufactured sometime prior to 1950 as the plastic Tenite stocks were discontinued in that year. The barrel of this shotgun had been shortened before it was given to me; it's a cylinder bore. No front sight had been installed after the barrel was cut. Bought the correct drill, tap and #4 bead from Brownell's and did the job. With .410 buck it keeps all three (lol) pellets on an NRA standard pistol target at 25 yards; better than you'd expect. Birdshot expands well beyond that, making it useful for HD only (as useful as that might be). Have to find some .410 slugs to try, it's pattern was well centered and it might turn out to shoot slugs with acceptable accuracy. Middle: Remington 870 Wingmaster in 20 ga. This isn't the standard 20 ga. built on a lightweight receiver; this one's built on a 12 ga. receiver and has a serial number that ends in "X". It's at least 35 years old as the last "Heavy Frame" 20 ga. 870s were made in 1979. I have the original barrel, but it's no good for bird hunting now as it won't accept steel shot and I'm too cheap to buy HeaviShot and the like. It could be returned to stock configuration by reinstalling the original barrel, mag spring and cap if one desired, though. Found another barrel on eBay (not an easy task), cut it to approximately 20" and faced it on my mill so that the new barrel is exactly the same length as the magazine extension and installed a new #4 bead. BTW, that's a 12 ga. extension - the mag tube is the same as a 12. The only differences between it and 12 ga. Wingmaster that I have observed are the shell stops (maybe), bolt and barrel. Rear: High Standard C-200 12 ga. semi-automatic. This is one of the first commercial gas-operated semi-auto designs. Its gas system, however, can't handle heavy and light loads without manually adjusting the gas system, so this one's a heavy load gun only. I installed the MMC adjustable rifle sights as it shot way low with only a bead. Now it shoots slugs to 2" above point of aim at 25 yards. It should be a fun 50 yard slug gun.
