There "ain't" enough Black Powder stuff here.
So please let me add some of my stuff. I love muskets. I truly see them as the founding tools of this great country we live in. And let me tell you, I was born here but I grew up in Italy.
Only 10 months ago "I came back" here to the USA, and I'm here to stay with wife and kids. So, I bought me a gift and a symbolic one: George Washington's commemorative flintlocks. These are copies (replicas) of a 1748 couple of flintlocks said to be GW's favourite flintlocks. It's my gift for my own independence, my own freedom (and the one of my children, about to become American Citizens because of me now being a tax paying resident here in the Republic of California). On the next 4th of July, I'll make sure to make some noise with these (just powder, no ball). Love you America - thank you with all of my heart, Filippo F. Olivieri, Born in Dallas, Texas the 5th of April 1968. Nice pistols SoloDallas! Welcome back to the USA! Your reason for buying them is really cool, I love the history.
To help add some black powders, here is a pic. of a couple of my pistols, an 1851 Navy & 1860 Army, both Pietta replicas in .44 caliber (ironically these are also from Italy )

Great responses!
Let's put some more meat on the grill. I "gots" more. Don't know about you, but I have always massively been into "Brown Besses". Here's two of the sizes (got more). Pedersoli Brown Besses by SoloDallas, on Flickr |

I must admit that my collection is a little light in the blackpowder area, but I do have one. This is a Model 1861 Springfield made in 1862. I have provenance that ties it to a solider in the 10th Connecticut Volunteers.
Although, it comes to mind that this rifle was produced for blackpowder. |

I've always loved the look of Brown Besses (and muskets), but if I got one it'd just be to "add to the collection" since I have no experience shooting BP

Brown Bess. It's THE musket.
From top to bottom, 2nd model (short), Carbine and Ship's Carbine. I hear what you say 09cs; it's not that I - too - have all that time to dedicate to Black Powder (time consuming). But boy, aren't they gorgeous, historically meaning AND fun. Brown Bess by SoloDallas, on Flickr |

They were made in 1976(!) for the Bicentennial of the Independence. They are supposed to be George Washington's favourite flintlocks and thus, they have been reproduced. About 950 pairs were made back then, mine are number 250 and I got them by checking repeatedly on Gunbroker. Good luck! (THANKS everyone for checking in!) |

Not a George Washington flintlock but another bicentennial rifle this time a H&R Officers Model Springfield. 45-70 and for me BP only.

Wow, I am surprised you were allowed to have that much firepower in Italy... Was it simple to get the permits, etc?

Yes. Had everything. Took me a year of chasing after public offices (to get it all done, between the gun permits, mental and physical exams, paying the taxes, ... ) but I made it. I also had to pass an exam to shoot black powder! But that's the way it is there. Now, on certain particular aspects Italy is even less strict than California: - short barrel rifles can be had (once you have your generic gun permit) up (or down) to 12" - you can buy any amount of guns (rifles, pistols) any given day and take them home immediately Once you have the not easy to achieve gun permit - in substance - life is relatively easy (you still have to go to the police department every time you buy more guns or ammo, within 72 hours of purchase, and fill out papers). California was kind of surprising even for me. |

Are you more interested in historical arms, or were you restricted from having newer ones, like the ar-15?

You're only seeing a smaller part of the collection in that image - the older guns. Newer ones were in the safe (AR15s, etc.) |

Thats pretty cool. I was in a layover in Germany, once, and was floored by the sweet magazines about guns they had. I was wondering if it was eye candy or if you could get the stuff. Interesting to finally know.

How about full auto, is that off limits?

Oh that is completely out of the question EVERYWHERE in Europe.
No gun ranges can even dream of it. Nope. Nothing. Not gonna happen. Now, you asked me about Germany. Germany has stricter rules than Italy, from what I'm told. It's really hard to own guns there. Let alone carry: no one carries. Same in France. Even rarely where it's proven you need a gun for personal protection, they won't issue the license to you. A bit like here in California, depending where one lives. But there it's truly much worse. So Germany is off limits. They have wonderful magazines and a great story of an industry making arms (Walther, Heckler & Koch, Mauser etc.) but the civilians have always been prohibited to own them as freely as it is here in the US (with the exception of a few states now) |
