Basically you carry them the same way you do when you go to the range.

You'll see people refer to them here as 'trunk guns'.
yup. of course.

Of course. To me it means carrying the gun/lock/case in and out when using the car, from a location in the car that is out of the way. That's a separate spot for ammo and gun, each locked (at least the gun), stored out of reach from the driver. I should have been clearer to note that it doesn't seem practical to do so. My view of course.

My daughter's bug out bag. She's going off to college, about 100 miles away.
A beat*ss dirty backpack I got for free from a casino.
Ruger P95 with holster 3 mags and 100 rnds. (ammo is better than cash)
AAA California map and good compass (just head south)
led flashlight from harbor freight (very bright and should last a week)
space blankets (2)
bic lighter
40 oz of water and a pure sip water filter
handiwipes
a no foo-foo 1st aid kit including cipro, painkillers, large bandages and suture kit and a couple of maxipads.
Gas mask and nitrile gloves (Israeli made)
4 freeze dried dinners/giant bag of skittles/6 CLIF barrs
Gerber tanto folding knife
Mace pepper spray
100 dollars in 10's.
TP and the little bag of stuff you get from the dentist.
The p95 is her's, I'm getting cerakotes hot pink and granite. She shoots a 100 rnds a mo, and is action pistol certified.

noplay, awesome of you to make your daughter a bag.

Might want to get her a small safe for her pistol and check weapons policies on the campus. Just in case a nosey roommate finds it. Better to be in a safe especially if against campus policy.

I have a BOB how ever after I bought my sks (one day maybe I'll have an AR or AK) I bought a TAPCO stock and found that the pistol grip the same as the M249 SAW. Trap door hing under it. The telescoping stock is hollow as well so I filled it.

PISTOL GRIP: magnesium and striker (fire starter), a small bladed knife multi tool, bottle opener, and can opener, a small compass.

STOCK: small bag of wood shavings, hooks, weights, small bit of line about 30 feet (guessing on length)

I could cram something else but what?

Those of you packing clothes might want to consider Ex Officio gear. They design their stuff for backpackers, adventurers, and travelers. In addition to being comfortable, breathable, and high quality (lifetime 100% satisfaction guarantee) they are designed so you only need to pack 2 of anything. Wear one and hand wash the other - it dries in a matter of hours. You could get away with one pair of everything in a survival situation, but for comfort and ease I recommend 2 pairs.

yeah, I've got a bunch of them prepped up. Being a brewer I have a large supply of these that I saved. After washing them they are great for this use:
