Default Need advise on "pocket pistol" CA legal

Getting to the end of my rope trying to find a cc that I can have pocket holstered (wallet size) here in CA.
Anytime I come to a conclusion as to what I want, I check roster and it's not on it.
I guess we have to see a model and check roster before we check fit, quality, performance, value
What I found was; 1. Sig Sauer P290rs, 2.Ruger LC9, both off Roster
Can Anyone suggest a good small pistol for CC for wallet type holster? I'm just getting real tired of looking and would appreciate any help.
THANKS.

PPT or SSE a Kahr PM9 / CM9 ? Those seem to be quite popular.
Or even a Walther PPS ?

But yeah, you're going to pay through the nose.

Find a dealer around you that does single shot exemptions.

Buy a LCP.

Done.

I think that might be illegal in CA.
I remember reading something about Wallet holsters being illegal but I did not save the link But Ill try to find it for you. Until I do or someone knowledgeable shows up feel free to regard this as FUD.

I pocket carry a Kahr PM 9. Great little gun. In my opinion the Walther PPS is a little to big for pocket carry but is great for IWB carry.

LC9 is on roster...LCP is easy enough to SSE, and they come up on the boards pretty regularly...NAA revolver in .22mag is on-roster and is one of my favorite carry pieces...

I got both the sig 238 and 938.. The 938 is just large enough to make pocket carry a bit cumbersome .. But I m sure some could do it.. The 238 is perfect for pocket carry (if you re ok with a .380)..

I guess a diamondback 9mm would be a good option??

May I suggest the Kahr P380, Sig P238, and Ruger LCP. I found all to be very a very comfortable pocket carry. The S&W J-Frame isn't bad either as a pocket carry option.

Bear in mind - off-roster guns are still "California legal." The methods to acquire them may be a little convoluted. But you can always try to find one someone is selling as a PPT and then you can avoid the SSE, if you'd prefer.

On roster, LC-9. I almost bought one with crimson trace grips

One thing about getting an off roster gun. I think some issuing authorities won't let you list that on your LTC. I am not expert there though, but before shelling out the cash you might want to ask

Kahr P380 replaced my PM9 for pocket carry. If you go off-roster get a LCP.

Seriously, I think half the people recommending pistols in this thread must not actually POCKET carry. Its not just a matter of what physically you can stuff into your pocket; you must be able to actually get your HAND in there too to actually draw the pistol from the pocket holster. Certainly jacket pocket carry allows a wider range of options, but pants pocket carry is a different story.

Thumbs up Thanks To All .....(always open for more info.)

I want to thank you all for the great options, advice, & knowlege.
Being a Calgun member can sure save alot of time with all the friendly help others have to offer.
I'm going out to look for one of these; 1 Glock 26 G4 9mm, I like the 10 rds & no safety. Actualy this is #1 for my needs if small enough.

2. Taurus TCP 380. I like the fit and value. It comes with 2 mags and a holster/pouch @ $286.

3. Ruger LC9 Truely small well made pistol.

4. Walther PPK/S. I have a PPQ, love it, and I know walther's quality. Price/availability (SSE) is my holdback.

5. Kahr P380. Clean well made little gun. A bit pricey.
I like all the above and just have to get them in my hand before I decide.
I'm so glad I asked you guys. You helped a lot. I'll take any info. you have to offer and post a pic when done.
Thanks again

I have a CZ 2075 RAMI and a Glock 27. They are both roughly the same size and I would not put them in the pocket pistol category. As mentioned above, a jacket pocket sure, but not pants pocket.

I also have a S&W 442 J-Frame and while it is just at the size where it's getting into pocket carry territory, I still find it to large to carry for that purpose. Even though I have a pocket holster for it, it almost always ends up IWB.

For true front pocket carry, I found a S&W Bodyguard 380 (had to find a PPT as it's not on roster). I would recommend something in this size category if you are going to pocket carry regularly.

I've PPT'd a Sig P238 and an LCP from this board. Just had to drive a bit, but worth it. LCP is lighter, but the P238 is a single action 1911-ish form factor that is easy to shoot for such a small gun, so that is my preferred. (I find the LCP to be the hardest handgun I own to hit what I'm trying to shoot beyond 7 yards, not crazy difficult at the range, but when seconds count....)

Careful there; pocket holster - good to go

Wallet holster that allows firing - violates PC 12020

Long discussion here.
TL;DR =

Quote:
(4) As used in this section, a "wallet gun" means any firearm
mounted or enclosed in a case, resembling a wallet, designed to be or
capable of being carried in a pocket or purse, if the firearm may be
fired while mounted or enclosed in the case.

Let me just say that your problem is not a bad one if you already have a LTC.

For 99% of us, we're never going to be able to concealed carry legally.

You say that you are in So Cal but you don't say where.

If you are near Ontario I will meet you at a range and let try the Taurus 738 TCP. And, if you want you can even try out it's big brother; the 709 Slim.

I got my ccw last year.. Just depends on your county.. Even in more difficult to get counties usually just a longer process but often still obtainable..

Glock26 is a really sweet gun and great for concealed carry. However it's not really a pocket gun and if you're looking for a gen4 specifically you should know that the gen4's are off roster also

Seecamp's fit the bill of pocket carry, but they're very expensive... Check out Kahr's newest .380 pocket pistol, the CW380. It's the same size as the P380,but about half the price.

The bodyguards are amazingly compact even with their integral lasers... I was going to get one SSE.. But sprung for a sig 938 instead.. Then had to move back to NorCal .. If I ever get the chance again I would definitely go for the bodyguard or maybe a db9(questionable reviews on the db)

I have a Glock 26, and it is definitely too big for pocket carry.

If you are looking for an on-roster pocket pistol, take a look at the Kahr P380 (as others have said). If you can get one via SSE, the Ruger LCP is supposed to be good, or check out the Diamondback 380. I have one in my pocket as I type this.
