Exclamation Monterey BLM land

I noticed on a GeoCommunicator map that outlines BLM land there is a large area between Salinas and Monterey off HWY 68. Anyone have any experience shooting here? not looking for secret spots, just wanted to know if this territory is frequented at all.

Cant say I have ever been there, it sounds interesting though. I am always looking for new spots that dont have range fees and are close by.

I think you're looking at fort ord national monument. In which case, no shooting is permitted.

from what I can see, no go. Fort Ord signs say no shooting.

Further inspection on google earth shows the place LITTERED with roads. No good backstop. One good spot to set up shop, but the top of your berm is still a road.

Apparently there was a range out there back in the day, and also the entire coastal side of highway 1 from Marina to Seaside, just about, was also a range. You can still see that one on the side of the highway.

Yep, about half the coastline from marina to seaside was firing ranges
There was also some ranges over by del Rey oaks too
There are also Ammo bunkers off the side of the highway right before the exit to seaside
The guard towers are still there

Idea...Why don't we get all the shooting clubs together and lay claim to those ranges? Just like equistrian clubs and building clubs, etc they got a couple buildings and the horse stables. The city of Seaside got the Golf course.

yea. I've know that. thats why all that coastline next to the highway is uninhabitable; lead leaching into the ground. I remember someone telling me the pollution scale that they measure lead concentration in for that whole area was based off a scale of like 1 to 50, 50 being the worst and that whole area rates at 48. this was of course like 10 years ago and I only recall this from memory...don't ask me to cite it anywhere.

Try looking a bit farther south down by Fort Hunter Liggett. There is suppose to be some good BLM land between Jolon Road and the 101. I haven't checked it out yet because I found out I can shoot on the small range we have on post.

Williams Hill. Just north of King City. It's in the mts. on the west side of hwy 101. I've heard shooting is legal here south of the comm towers. Haven't been myself. If anyone has more info......
