You need to have the image hosted at a site like Flickr or Photobucket. Once you have the image there, you right click image, go to "properties" and copy the image url. On your post here add in this: right after it, and if done right your image should show up in the post.

Thanks! This was my first experiment with Cerakote, after years of using Duracoat on everything. I'm definitely sold on the durability of this stuff, it's an insanely tough finish. Not a lot harder to use than Duracoat either. The most challenging part was finding a cheap toaster oven large enough to fit a rifle length forend
I'm digging your build further up the page as well. I like how the KX3 is tucked in under the SS handguard. I built a similar setup a few years ago for the wife, except mine had the 12" handguard with a 14.5" barrel. The KX3 on the end of a 14.5" middy makes for an extremely reliable setup.

Those who re-surface your own guns, how do you prep? Sand/bead blast. Acetone & sandpaper. I ask cause I have a Yankee Hill upper that does not match my lower in finish and it bugs me to no end... Would it be easier to sell it and buy a new upper that matched???

This is one of those cases were I would say dont sell it, because if you absolutely must have the finish match painting is really the only way to guarantee that. Sometimes even factory rifles dont match, has nothing to do with quality. I have a 3000 dollar factory rifle that isnt even close. p.s. if you are that anal about matching finishes, odds are you wont be a fan of your own paint work for quite a long time. If you must do it on your own (which I encourage) go slow and practice a lot on mags and stocks and what not

I would just cerakote your upper and lower. I am a fan of Mega uppers and lowers. I have 2 uppers and 1 lower (soon to be 2 lowers) and the three match perfectly.

Duracote you say??? That sounds easier... How tough is it? Going on an upper it needs to stand up to some punishment..

Could you take some extra pictures under different lighting conditions for me? I'm looking to get the slide on a pistol done in tungsten. Going for the bi-tone look without the flashy stainless. Thinking a darker matte finish would look good.

Brownells Alumahyde. Black semi gloss. Egyptian Maadi kit. Parkerized then painted with 2 layers of this spray can paint. With these spray cans you need to buy the backup spray nozzle kit because the first nozzle always clogs. Let sit for at least a week after spraying and you'll be fine, 2 weeks is even better yet. Once it cures it is incredibly durable and worth the wait.
The top cover is deliberately worn down to look used btw. The rest is unscratched for now.

Have you considered laser etching a small Mattel logo on the gun somewhere?

Burnt bronze was my first choice of color but then changed my build route to gray. It was either tungsten or sniper gray. Either grays would've have looked good so I went with tungsten and couldn't be happier.

just found the answer
http://gunsngirls.com/?p=507 What does it cost to cerakote your AR? Ive been wanting to change my black lower and upper to match the stock and rail. Ive seen some people with the airbrush guns, I have a 20 gal compressor already. Whats the deal with baking? Do you just spray over the black coating that's on the lower and upper already?

I use a big toaster oven I got from Overstock.com for baking. I think it's like a 12 or 13 quart size. I can fit a rifle length (13") forend in it diagonally, but not longer parts like barrels. It's best to have a dedicated oven for baking, this stuff stinks, especially when cooking. Smells like a combination of epoxy resin and formaldahyde. If you bake it in the kitchen oven, prepare to catch flak for it from your significant other.
