Default Let's see your LE trade-in pistols

Here are mine...two Germans and an American. From top to bottom in my picture:

Top Right: S&W 4006TSW - California Highway Patrol
Center Left: Sig P6 - North Rhine-Westphalia Police (grips on this one are not original, but rather are Ash Wood grips from MarschalGrips in Hungary)
Bottom Right: Walther/Manurhin P4 - West Berlin Police

All fairly unique guns - the CHP 4006s were just for CHP, the P6s were a Sig P225 variant only used by West German Police, and the Manuhrin made P4s only ever saw service in West Berlin as far as I know. These firearms are each a piece of history IMO. What ex-LE pistols do you all have?

Very cool. Is it .38 only or can it run .357 Magnum as well?

38 special only. Strange history where departments didn't want .357 in a service revolver so S&W created the 68.

Very cool! Here?€™s my 1953 High Power from the North Rhine-Westphalia Police:

An Italian Police Beretta M1951 from 1961:

And a P225 from Swiss Police with Montage Suisse rollmark, heel release, and Zurich Canton flag on left side from 1985:

I?€™d like to get a P6, I missed the boat when the first hit the market. They are getting too pricey for me anymore.

Nice collection MattB!

Very nice pictures and cool pistols. I didn’t know that NRW Police used the Hi Power. I’m learning a lot from this thread. The Zurich 225 is really interesting too with the heel mag release. I’ve only ever seen one other of those and it was way out of my price range. My West Berlin P4 has the heel mag release as well. Takes some getting used to but pretty easy once you do. I was fortunate enough to pick up my P6 for a reasonable price from a fellow member here earlier this year. I’ve also seen some Zurich Police marked P228s around too but none in California.

Oh man.... I saw a couple of those right after I got the P225. I’m still kicking myself for not getting one.

Here’s another recent thread on the NRW high powers. Over the last few years I’ve tracked down 4 or 5 from the same series:

I have a 4006 TSW and a 659 that was used in Vermont. Both pretty good guns. The 659 has a much better trigger than the 4006 TSW though.

I have a 659 as well, though I don’t know its history. It does have a nice trigger. Very short reset. One thing I do like about the 2nd Gen S&Ws over the 3rd Gen S&Ws is that the grips are much easier to replace. The OEM grips on a 3rd Gen are a pain to replace.

Yeah, I grabbed a P6 when the first batch came in. $340 out the door.

I wish I had been able to pick one up at that price, but I wasn’t old enough to buy firearms at the time the P6s were plentiful. I love mine though. Put night sights on it, changed all the springs, and installed an SRT kit and the wood grips on it and now it’s exactly the way I want it. The only disappointment (and it wasn’t unexpected due to the design) is that it absolutely will not feed JHPs. Only FMJs for this one.

With the talk about the Smiths, I had to get this out. Not a trade in per se, but purchased from a retired LEO locally.

I actually bought this old S&W 59 twice. It was my introduction to DA/SA guns and I was not initially enamored with it and I traded it tor a SP01. Liking that less, I traded it for a MkIII Hi Power. Eventually my friend told me he was going to sell the 59, so I bought it back from him. I wound up replacing all the springs, firing pin, and small parts and it is now a keeper.

That's a good looking 59. Classic S&W bluing always looks good on a semiauto. I was told my 659 (which per S&W was manufactured in 1985) was owned by an LEO before I bought it so while it may not be an LE trade it may have been an LE gun. It's got some honest wear on it but I cleaned it up, did some maintenance on it, and then worked with Denes Marschalko and MarschalGrips of Hungary to have a custom set of wood grips made for it. The thing I really like about the grips is that they are not much thicker than the stock plastic grips, so unlike many wood grips they don't make the grip oversized.

Nice looking 659!! I like the grips! I would like to get better grips, but like the solid black for the blued guns.

Walther PP former property of Bremerhaven Polizei

Mauser Luger, East German Deutsche Volkspolizei (I stashed away the Vopo grips for safe keeping)

Thanks. I think MarschalGrips has them available to order on their website now too. One thing I really like about ordering from them is that you can choose both the wood material and finish. I specifically chose maple wood and a gray stain finish for my 659 to contrast with the stainless finish.

I would love to see a CBP trade in HK P2000.
