Default Marlin 795 Rifling Gap/discontinuity?

While looking at the rifling on my Marlin 795, I noticed that there is a literal gap or discontinuity in the rifling. It can easily be felt while running a patch via cleaning rod through the bore. It is about an inch in front of where the stock ends. Is this intentional? I tried contacting Marlin, but didn't get a clear answer (they just asked for info to send in for repair but never actually answered my question).

Thanks in advance for the help.

No its not normal. They can't answer what it is without seeing it probably.

My guess, extreme leading of the barrel. Unless its a new gun, if it is it could be a defect. But I doubt the rifling would just stop and start again.. If it was a defect I think it would just stop.

Edit: My guess was wrong after seeing OP's photo below. I agree with everyone else thats a bulge.

Let me try get a picture when I get home. The bore literally opens up (is larger diameter) for like 1/2 to 1 inch.

If you can "feel" it, it is probably a bulge in the barrel. Patch is tight, then loose, then tight again?

Run your fingers along the outside of the barrel, you may be able to feel it. May have had a squib.

Sounds exactly like a bulge in the barrel. You can usually feel it if you run your fingers gently up and down that outside section of barrel.
Usually happens with an obstruction in the bore or a squib. I have caught a few of these on used .22s in gun stores.....gun store commandos usually don't notice them.

I don't feel or see a bulge in the barrel. I tried to take a picture of the thing, the edges of it look very sharp, not a gradual change as I would expect from a bulge.

Looks like a bulge to me. Looks exactly like what a barrel bulge looks like inside the bore.

Check the outside again. Carefully.

The first time I saw that, I was puzzled and it took awhile to notice it on the outside. Very hard to pick up.

^^^THAT^^^ is most likely cause. Eyes can be easily deceived when looking at a bright light through a long skinny hole.

Suggest you use a steel straight edge, in a dimly lit room on outside of barrel, with a light behind it at a distance.

Marlin "Micro-Groove rifling is very shallow to start with.

Still can't find the bulge, but I also can't tell if I'm seeing a bulge or wanting to see a bulge and my mind is playing tricks on me. From searching online, you appear to be correct, similar pictures posted on RFC. The ring is just misleading...

Since I'm guessing people will be curious, ammo and quantities used are as follows (in no particular order):
Federal HV Match (50rds)
Federal Game Shok 38gr (50rds)
Federal Automatch (~500rds)
Federal 36gr HP Value Pack (~200rds)
CCI SV (200rds)
CCI Minimag 36gr HP (100rds)
Aguila Super Extra 40gr HV (500rds)

Since I see no cracking or gross deformation, I'll probably just keep shooting it (seems to be the recommendation on RFC) and check accuracy. Hardly seems worth it to spend the value of the rifle on shipping to Marlin, but we'll see what they say. Maybe they'll pay for shipping and a new barrel...

Thanks for the help Tank and Bainter, much appreciated.
