Default Checking interest:1911 meet/shoot?

Any other 1911 fans out there interested? The internet and pictures only go so far. Get a hands on feel for different brands and modifications, troubleshoot problems, share tips and tricks, etc. Newbies can come and learn hands-on, try before you buy, etc. Experienced guys, come show how things work and how it's done. I myself am probably somewhere in the middle, happy to show new people the basics, have done some work on mine, reload, and shoot a little competition. Would love to meet some who have been around the block and have old, high end, or interesting guns. Post up or PM if you're interested.

I figured we'd see who is interested and then figure out when and where is best. I'm in imperial valley, I figure I'll have to come over there.

When you say 1911 do you mean the auto pistol or rifle? I think there is a rifle with that designation.

I have a WWII 1911 and would show up. Would prefer to shoot in the open but I'd be up for anywhere that isn't too far away. I've got 2 80% frames and plan on learning a whole lot more about John Browning's design.

Just go to any action pistol match and you'll see the whole range of 1911's and guys who know what works and what doesn't.

Will definitely shoot for an outdoor range with room to hang out, maybe even BLM land? Tons of room where I am but a bit of a drive. I'm not familiar with places to shoot in the SD are, so I'll be needing your input. 2 votes for South Bay so far.

Really interested in this - I would be up for whatever, but my 1911 is in jail until Feb 22nd. Plus from what i heard, SBRG from what I heard is a great place to shoot.

Anything in SD County up into San Juan Cap or Murietta I would try to make it to. Only date that doesn't work for me in the near future is March 2-3.

Let's open this up for pre-discussion about things we'd like to see, do, and learn about.

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) Buy/Sell/Trade should be OK, but PARTS ONLY...firearms deals, please use the proper (FFL) channels.

Sounds good to me, though negotiating on a firearms deal should be allowed.

So are we thinking either the 16th or 17th of March? We should figure out when and where ASAP and see if we can reserve the range space. Iron Sights in Oceanside are good people and might reserve space. The 17th works better for me. I don't know any ranges north of the 78 corridor, so if anyone has ideas please suggest them.

16th would be best for me, I'm in church on Sunday mornings.

I think I've shot at Iron Sights, seemed like good people, isn't it indoor only, divided lanes? Would they have room for hanging out?

Thanks

BLM is my preference, but I know of none west of me. Everyone is more than welcome to come over here if they want to make the trek. Lots of BLM land, indoor and outdoor ranges, both with lots of room, and both of which I am a member. (I am 2 hours E of SD)

I like the weekend of the 16th. BLM land seems like a better option for a larger group, it will give more opportunity to socialize and relax. Depends on how many show up I guess.

Iron Sights is so busy they won't typically reserve space, and definitely not on weekends. Calguns will be having a monthly meet/shoot there Wed March 6, from 7-10pm. We have access to their small training room to hang out in, and will be given lanes as available (we had 3-5 lanes on the pistol side last time, plus 1-2 on the rifle side). Details on the meet tomorrow. We are limited to 20 people, so if you guys are interested, sign up. I've got a couple 1911s I can bring out.

Thread is up. Hope to see you 1911 guys if you can make it. I'll have a couple and IS has at least a Wilson CQB and Nighthawk GRP Recon to rent, so let's see 'em!

I just purchased a used 1911 a couple of weeks ago, but know next to nothing about it. Would love to meet some others and learn a thing or two.

Saturdays or Sundays are best for me; the 16th of March or after. I'll be watching this thread and have never shot on BLM land, so that gets my vote.

I think a piggyback is a good idea. Only thing is, it's during the week, and I'm 2 hours away...I could probably make it work, have to take the afternoon off, and get home real late and be useless the next morning. I'd prefer a weekend I think.

I'm going on the 6th, but I'm down for a BLM 1911 shoot too.

Any ideas for BLM land? (Let's not give up spots on a public forum, PM, probably better).

Lets try to nail this down. So far, no BLM land. I think next best is South Bay. I'm free on weekends indefinitely now.

I'm interested - just picked up a 9mm SA Loaded a couple months ago. At the Del Mar show today, found out that there's a new pistol range on Pendleton, open to the public weekends only. I think it's outdoor. I'm on North County, so that works for me, but I'd be willing to head South as well.
