Default Buying lead from pistol range?

A pistol range close to me is selling 1 pound led ingots, said to be 98% lead and 2% antimony, for $1 each pound. Is this a good buy? Thank you.

Some folks like projects

They contact boat salvage yards and buy the lead from sail boats....
Or buy used wheel weights and car batteries.
Scour Craig’s list for used scuba weight belts

The $1/ pound from the range seems like an easy way to go...

I have not seen the lead yet, just a picture, it does look good. Some bars, and some muffin size. I will give them a call and check it out.
Thank you.

I'd pay that for good clean ingots.

That’s not bad. I’d buy it if I were you. I’ve stocked up on lead a while back just in case for a rainy day.

$1 a pound is the standard going rate.

Dumb people pay more on Ebay.

Better deals can be found, but if you're only looking for 100 pounds or so, it's more than worth it.

Keep your eyes open at swap meets, garage sales, and craigslist. Often you can find deals for 50 cents a pound (roof sheeting, lead pipes, boxes of old Linotype and letterpress lead, scuba weights, etc.)

A great source is dentists. Dentists that still use the X-rays that are actual film and haven't gone digital will have a box in their office with all of the lead foils from them. They have to PAY to have it disposed of as hazardous waste. A few friendly inquiries can net you super-clean lead for nothing.

I scored a bunch of that once from a friend so we could pour jigs. I still have a slot of it left. It’s pure lead though. Great for jigs but not so much for bullets. You’ll need to mix in antimony and tin or whatever to get an alloy. Unless you know what your doing might be better to buy lead alloy from a reputable source.

I have a couple hundred pound of clean lead ingots. I believe they are probably the correct hardness for reloading as my dad made them and he was seriously into reloading. I would sell them for $1.00/lb FOR ALL.

Your lucky, all my local ranges refuse to sell any lead. The lead and dirt is treated as HASAT. The local scrap yards also refuse to sell.
