Default Prior Service Army Trying to Join USAF

Long story short, I've been stiffed recently by some AF recruiters, and I am looking to get into the Air Force preferably sooner than later. Odd because I have zero dis-qualifiers.

If you've got any leads on someone willing to help in the greater Sacramento area, or even the Bay Area, please let me know.

Prior Army SGT.

Have you been trying regular recruiters? If so you need to fbd a prior service recruiter. Also you may want to try getting into the air national guard if you are having a hard time getting in, afterwards your contract then you can try switching over to Air Force reserve or active.

^ Correct. I have a lot of ex Army buds that crossed over to reserves. I have heard recently that the AF is making really difficult to join due to cut backs. GL!

I can get you a Travis AFB recruiter if you don't mind that drive. What AFSC (MOS) are you shooting for.

Depending on the career field's criticality, it's difficult to get in. If you want to be a cop and you're E5-E7, then the odds aren't good. If you want MI, then maybe there's an opening... Let me know if you want the number and I'll make a few phone calls...

Thanks for the quick responses. Bummer that the cutbacks are making it rough, but hopefully something will work its way out.

I'm fairly open to MOS, definitely preferring to be in healthcare or intelligence. I would greatly appreciate your help! Travis isn't too far from me, so that works out.

Thanks!

I was a 35G in the Army (geospatial intel) and Im considering going active in the AF in the same field. Id even be cool with going to AF tech school for geoint if they demand I do it.

My real hangup is I would only do it if the wife could too (were both prior Army, both got out earlier this year). My wife was a 25B so Im not sure if the AF would take her as thats not a high priority AFSC, but I think she would score high enough to reclass into something else if needed.

Im not sure how af is woth army, but they're real picky when it comes to taking prior Marines. My friend is a fellow data chief (0659), and they basically told him he needed his degree first and to be out of the Corps for a year or two before he'd even be considered.

As mentioned before. Check out Air National Guard. The Air Guard is a lot easier to get into compared to the reserves. I like it.

Reserve/Guard is second to AD for me right now. Rough time to try to get in, but after deployment and having been attached to AD units even if for short times, I prefer AD.

Though if I can get myself one of the jobs I want, I wouldn't complain!

I talked to 2 different AF recruiters about going AD and was told that currently, they will only accept prior service from other branches into Special Forces jobs. No way in hell Im ever jumping out of a plane so... not interested.

However, the AF could change its policy at any time so if you are serious, keep checking in with them.

Amazing to me that they are not looking for good, qualified people. That seems odd.
