Default Important changes to CGN Contributorships!

As of 4/1/2013 the Contributorships will be a joint process between CGN (Calguns.net) and CGSSA (Calguns Shooting Sports Association) with CGN offering the perks and the funds going to further CGSSA's non-profit outreach, community efforts and 2nd Amendment grassroots activism.

From your end what you will see as far as changes is exactly one thing, the 'CGN Contributor' title will become 'CGN/CGSSA Contributor'. That's it, nothing else changes for the Contributors.
What changes behind the scenes is that with this change all funds from Contributorships will go directly to the Calguns Shooting Sports Association (CGSSA).

As many of you know CGSSA is the evolution of the Calguns C3 volunteer organization. We have incorporated CGSSA and filed all the necessary forms with the IRS to be a 501(c)4 non-profit. For those unaware of the difference, a 501(c)4 non-profit is NOT a tax deductable charity or organization. However because it is not tax deductable there are NO LIMITS to the political activities, electioneering and support or opposition CGSSA can be involved in.
CGSSA has also registered with the NRA's Affiliates program.

CGSSA is all volunteer from the President down to the guy helping to pick up trash at a BLM range (often times they are the same person!) and both positions are equally important. This means ALL of the funds from Contributorships will go to events for the community, shooting outreach such as Women on Target and grassroot political efforts.

Up until this change I have, through CGN, been fully funding all of the C3 and now CGSSA activities with funds from both the Contributorships and the advertising. This change takes CGN out as a middle man and gets funds directly to CGSSA. I will still be using CGN advertising funds to augment CGSSA and it's activities until such time as they are self sufficient, this is a first step down that road.

Unfortunately this does create a minor problem but one with an easy fix.

New recurring Contributors will automatically set up automatic annual payments through the CGN website to the CGSSA account.
However existing recurring Contributors will likely have an issue since they already have existing automatic paypal payments set up with CGN's account.
Based on the number of failed automatic renewals I am seeing in the logs it looks like this is going to present a problem. I am looking at how this can be rectified on the back end of vBulletin but I suspect what will have to happen is cancelling the recurring payments to CGN and re-sign up as Contributors to link to CGSSA's account.

If this is the case this is the process for cancelling recurring payments:
1 Log in to your PayPal account.
2 Click Profile near the top of the page.
3 Click My money.
4 Click Update in the My preapproved payments section.
5 Click Cancel, Cancel automatic billing, or Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.

Signing back up is the same process as when you originally became a recurring Contributor, setting up a new recurring payment will be handled automatically just as it was before.

To be blunt, it's a pain in the butt, I know.
But the end result, a non-profit CGSSA grown out of the CGN community working to grow and protect shooting sports in local chapters and to increase 2A activism is worth a little hassle.

I'm slightly confused. There's no 501c3 now?

Nice to see you parlaying it into benefit...

I guess the combined contributor title hasn't happened yet? As of this post mine (and others I've seen) have the old CGN only.

Calguns is the 501(c)3, CGSSA is the 501(c)4

Putting the money where your mouth is? No, this is better. More like paving the road where your feet will take you!

Thank you CGN and all the contributors!

Actually CGN is an S Corp, CGSSA is a 501(c)4 and CGF is a 501(c)3.

The combined title should have taken effect, for some reason they haven't yet and I'm poking around under the hood trying to fix that.

Any chance of getting affiliated with CMP as an approved club for their membership requirements?

Just a thought. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate.

Not a bad idea!! Although it would be through CGSSA if it could be done.

There was a week or two where paypal messed up CGSSA's account and several people who signed up were not set as Contributors automatically.
PM or email me info on the payment and I'll set it up manually.
