Default My Black Hills Honey Badger 45 70 ammo arrived!

Well the Honey Badger rounds arrived. Darn expensive chit. But I'm still waiting on my 45 70 Marlin. Life isn't fair!

How much did you buy? Are you trying them out?

That's step no. two. I can get the bullets @ Midway. But here's the deal. I'm over 70 so time is money. While I do intend to reload, I want to have fun before that happens. Boar hunt is bucket list number one, two, etc. I'm approaching my freedom date and moving fast toward my buckets!!!

But even the bullets are relatively expensive -- I seem to recall something like 1$ each. The rounds from BlackHill are something around $300 per hundred.

I do have some Starline brass though and some hollow point style bullets.

I will start with the traditional rounds to get the rifle rough sighted and then tweak with the honey badgers. Then it's boar hunting time. Black Hills has a video of the round blasting through buffalo ribs with deep penetration. It should do the job. Since it's lighter than normal I'm hoping the trajectory is a bit flatter. That will make life easier. I'm still waiting for the Marlin to arrive, however, though I have been tempted with some used ones on this site as an interim measure.

Is that non lead? I only see the black hills ammo with barnes bullets approved and no45-70 on the list.

It IS non-lead! Lehigh Defense bullet (also used by other manufacturers). Cost from Turner's (special order) $339.36 per hundred out the door. Got to buy at least 100 rounds for them to do it.

But you're probably right. I guess the manufacturers need approval before we can use it lawfully. Not sure though. It is solid copper so it complies with the requirements. At a certain point I say xuck it! But then I calm down and read the law word by word.

But now that I'm thinking about the question ... "It's not on the list is it?" I'm starting to wonder. What about handloads? Are they on the list? Oh wow! Never thought about that. But then again, the odds are ...

It is not hollowpoint like the barnes bullets that they use in some of their ammo. I did not see it on list from cdw. It is on the projectiles approved list. Not the buffalo ammo list

Right. It's not hollow point. It's that new wave displacement stuff that kinda acts like a hollow point but is much more effective at penetration and also against barriers. I have some Barnes 300gr TSX FN FB 45/70 bullets for reloading but no Lehigh stuff yet.
