Default Picked up a .22 upper

Purchased this bad boy, had a bunch of cabelas points and it been haunting my dreams for about two weeks.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/CMMG-...h-All+Products

I despise the lo pro gas block, so I'm going to remove it, and the handguard.
So I need to pick out a rail under $200 preferably and decide on either a red dot or a scope.

Right now its either a vortex strike fire red dot or a PA 1-4x illuminated scope.

And a 10" samson evolution rail.

What do you all think? Recommendations for different scopes, red dots, rails, pics are always welcome! What's working well for you?

No recommendations, but I look forward to hearing how everything goes for you. I've been eyeing that upper for quite a while, too, but really really hate the low pro gas block, too. Been holding out for the normal one with a standard front sight, but I'm curious to see how well your experiment goes.

I would put a Troy Alpha rail on there with the front sight integrated... As for the optic choice, I would probably get a Vortex SPARC in that price range. Its lighter/smaller than the Strike, but thats personal preference.

Just so you know... The gas deflector thats installed on the upper makes it incompatible with standard upper vice blocks. You will need a modified one or figure out something else. This is important for removing the flash hider and barrel nut for your new rail.

I've got a modified upper vice block and am in your area if your interested.

It uses a proprietary nut. I had a local GS install it for me. Here's a quick picture of it.

Thanks for the pic red monkey. And all the recommendations from everyone. Picked up a 12.37" samson evolution rail. And installed it. Very easy and looks great, seems durable. ordered primary arms micro dot, kill flash and American defense t1 qd mount should be here this coming week. stoked

Nice, I build my own recently using a CMMG bolt/ barrel kit. S&W upper (no forward assist) Turned out pretty nice.

Put it on a S&W lower. With a YHM free float tube, and started with a lopro block, but switched to a standard in order to put on BUIS.

I'm Jealous,
Been wanting a .22 upper for quit awhile.
The only thing I don't like about the CMMG is the M4 barrel contour, I would prefer a standard 16" - 18" H-bar
What kind of accuracy are you guys getting ?

I have the DPMS M4 upper mated to a Spikes lower & it runs like a Swiss watch. Uses the Black Dog mags. All metal with a bolt similar to a 10/22.
Highly recommend.

I got a tacsol up for $499 and it comes iwth the Hogue free float tube. Actually not a bad tube, especially for a .22lr upper and they can be had really inexpensively.

I took my new Tactical Solutions upper to the range today. It was awesome. I shot Federal Bulk pack, Winchester HV, CCI SV, and CCI Mini Mag. They all functioned flawlessly. The Winchester and CCI Mini Mags were the most accurate. I was putting 10 shot groups in a 1 inch group @ 50 yds off of my range bag. The Federal and CCI SV were not nearly as accurate, closer to a 4 inch group with an occasional flyer. It is a blast to shoot.

Congrats, I got that exact same upper from Cabelas a while back, and it is money well spent. Great piece of hardware. Mine has had over 5000 rounds through it without any real issues. It does like to be kept clean and well oiled. I have found Slip 2000 EWL makes it function a lot better even when really dirty than any other oil I have tried.

Here is mine, now has a PA 30mm red dot, and MOE hand guard)

Yeah it works flawlessly with Remington Golden bullets, I haven't found any ammo it does not like. It even cycles Aguila sub sonics.

CMMG uppers are well worth it.

Nice looking rifles!

I love my CMMG upper (on a NFA polymer lower) - over 5k rounds and no FTF or FTEs.

Free float the thing for sure, and I would get a Primary Arms red dot before I would get a sparc. Cheaper, and better imo. Their customer service is some of the best in the industry. Plus they are all in stock right now, they usually aren't. It's a good time to snatch one up!

EDIT: They are a sight sponsor for Calgauns as well. Can't beat that either, support our friends.

Here's a pic of my Noveske/CMMG 22 setup.

^^ Heck of an AR-22 you have there! You mated CMMG barrel and bolt group to a Noveske upper?

(love what you did with the MIAD grip, too, I may have to try that with mine!)

ty, yeah was lucky enough to find a noveske stripped upper to build off of during the panic. Then bought a barrel and bolt combo from cmmg. That's really the way to go, you save a good chunk of change going that route.

The Taccom pressure plug and enhanced firing pin are a must with CMMG uppers.

Nice build! Been waiting for range report too, lets see what ammo will it like specially with the scarcity of 22LR nowadays.
My CMMG upper has been reliable with all .22 ammo I have tried from Thunderbolts to Minimags and everything in between, you name it, it shoots it fine.

After getting the Taccom plug, no problems with my CMMG unit at all. It's a good investment.

I really got to get me a 22 upper. Been thinking of another 10/22 or 15-22 but think I'll just use my existing lowers.

I finally took mine out today. I built an 80% lower for mine as well as went with the catch 22 bolt catch and mag shims for the 15-22 mags. I was using remington bucket o bullets and I am happy to say I had a flawless run! Now I just need to get an optic for it so I can see a little further out with it, honestly I could get out pretty far with the iron sites with it but can't see the paper well enough to judge the shots. I am super happy with it and like others said will eventually change to a longer rail and get rid of the gas block.

I'am curious why change to longer rail and different gas block. Does the CMMG Sierra stock upper not run right?
