Default what clothing is appropriate for IA

Ive got my IA appt today at 12. I'm not really a slacks and tie kinda guy. I normally wear jean shorts and t-shirts.

Would jean shorts with belt, tucked in white tee with an unbuttoned button down shirt over the tee be ok?

I don't want to be "that under dressed or overdressed guy". Just want to be presentable but on the casual side because that's really my natural dress "personality" so to speak

Look like an adult and wear long pants.
The t-shirt and shirt would be fine.

You want this thing, right?

You are going in to conduct business. Dress accordingly. Dockers or Chinos or slacks, leather shoes and belt, tucked in business shirt. You can do without the tie.

No ball cap, no sun glasses, shaved or neat beard, neat hair (no Euro boy buns, etc.).

FWIW I just wore jeans and a clean tucked in shirt. It probably looks like opera attire compared to the gang bangers and hookers they see every day near the cop shop in San Bernardino.

Hope all went well.

Jean shorts with T-Shirt? I guess if you wear black socks, that should be fine.

ETA: I see this already happened. Now I'm curious, what did you decide to wear? How did it go?

What would you wear to a job interview? You probably should have asked this question a day or so before, not 2 1/2 hours before.

Forgot, phone rang. Best of luck with your interview. You are young, learn from this. Keep at least one decent will fit suit on hand. You never know.

Like it or not you are pre-judged on your appearance. Dress however you want but keep in mind you will be judged . As others have said business casual, if you do not know what that is look it up.

Unless your net worth has many zeroes after the primary digit then you can have a I don’t give a flying F attitude.

I'm reading all these responses, and realizing that I rode in on my motorcycle, had helmet hair and had on my t-shirt, moto jacket, riding boots, and jeans and it was a non-issue.

I wouldn't sweat what I wore to the interview. Just be courteous.

My interview was the lady filling out my application, I did not have an actual sit down interview with anyone. Even though they called it the "Interview".

So I wore Levis and white shirt tucked in and an unbuttoned button down.

Interview was ok. I had forgotten about a few tickets from back in 1987-1992. I now have to write explanations of why I didn't put them on my application. It was so long ago I honestly forgotten about them.

They wanted 3 camping receipts 1 more utility bill and a written explanation of the 2 felony detention and release only (I was assaulted and both of us were arrested, no charges filed) and I sold a boat and the buyer gave me a forged bank check. Both of those incidents were very old as well. Neither were considered arrests but detention and release only as there were no charges filed.

I had also forgotten that I was granted a protective order in 2008.

we shall see what happens

Yeah I get it. I'm happy for ya 38special, do you want a brownie point or cookie, are we really going to try to compare your life experiences with another persons? Please lets be adults here. My early adulthood I was a functioning alcoholic. I got sober 3/3/93 and have been since.

So yes there was 3 or 4 real fuzzy years where forgot about many things. I suffered a tragic loss at 17 and self medicated instead of dealing with it appropriately. That's why people drink most of the time. To forget or self medicate.

As far as the protective order I had gotten sole custody of 2 children in court (took them from their mother, do you know how hard that is in California, it would be easier to get a CCW in Los Angeles County) and the protective order was a part of the case, I didn't deem it necessary but the judge added it in because of their mothers violent history, as she attacked me in 1997. So yes I had forgotten about something I did not ask for in the first place.

Kinda funny how ya'll quick to judge. The last 13 or 14 years I have become an ordained minister, I serve on 2 ministries, one 12 step ministry and a motorcycle ministry, we feed people, minister to people, and bring hope to a seemingly lost world.

I could be the poster child for how a person can turn a lost life around for good.

And you are right baranski some people should not carry firearms, I'm not one of those individuals.

Must not have been OC. OC asks for tickets within the last 5 years on the OC application, not lifetime.

it was OCSD and I disclosed the tickets for the last 5 years (none).

Odd the 1997 detention and release they did NOT know about ( I disclosed it in my application and I gave them a copy of the police report and the letter from the DA declining to pursue charges at my interview)

My interview was with a trainee, oddly I knew the training officer as she was a harbor patrol officer and I worked in the harbors so I knew most of the patrol sheriffs.

Maybe OCSD realized you were a Kings fan in OC? That in itself should be an auto disqualifier.

Just making light of the situation. Good luck to you. Hope all goes well.

OP is not applying for a dep-u-tee position.

Where what you normally wear when you go to work. They just want to get an idea of who you are and what you're about. Asking open ended questions. Give your best honest answers.
It's not a friggin fashion show. They're supposed to ask you about your arrest record. That's the job.
Fill in the blanks as best you can and be honest. That's it.
No blood tests and wiz quiz or brights lights and rubber hoses.

I hope the OP gets this. We need more good people with carry guns out there.

I think we are all guilty of being too quick to judge more often than we want to. The Internet is great right up until it obscures the totality of things. And whenever we post something, it seems to become a target of some people who can't wait to judge (almost every time) ... and even some people who do judge, but really don't mean to... and then there are those people who "sound like" judging but it's our own perception that causes the short-circuit.

I myself thought the same things as those guys when you mentioned all these things you forgot about. I appreciate you clearing it up. It's always nice to hear when a man turns his life around.

Back to the topic - I'm OCSD too and am surprised they scrutinized your traffic infractions from 30 years ago.

Can’t say I would remember any traffic tickets from 25-30 years ago either and I’ve got a pretty good memory, unless you ask my wife.
