Default CCW ( Stanislaus County )

Have anyone got approve for CCW recently in Stanislaus County? I have set my appointment and it's a long wait June of 2014. My appointment is over a year away but I am curious about the whole process, questions they will ask, etc etc.

I had my appointment 8 weeks ago. Turned in my application, did fingerprints, etc.

Haven't heard anything since. I'll keep you posted, though.

My experience was pretty straight forward and unadorned. They're not trying to trick you or find some cheap reason to deny.

Just got a call from a Deputy with SCSD for my interview. The call lasted all of 4 minutes. The Deputy was incredibly polite. Asked my reason for wanting an LTC. Asked if I had had any issues that made me want to pursue the LTC. Asked me about my job. Very general questions.

Overall, a good interview. Great timing, really. I start training tonight.

Sheriff Christiansen is a CCW believer. He is legitimately short handed in staffing to get all the applications processed. You'll get there...

Yes. Have patience.

And when he's up for election, you know who to vote for. Any incoming Sheriff and decide to revoke all LTCs.

If we get a different Sheriff, that could very well happen.

I believe he is in next years spring election cycle. Also as a FYI, turnaround time for changes on a existing permit is 48 hours.

Any idea how long it usually takes from interview to issuance? Also, I just finished my certification course, can I drop off my certificate any time?

My appointment with the Sheriff Dept for my CCW is June 25, 2014. I just receive a message from Brandon of the Sheriff Dept. saying there's opening and if I want to come in sooner.

Same here. I posted this on the Stanislaus Co. Good Cause Statement thread:

Did you pick a new date? They proposed a date, I said hold on lemme check (fortunately for me I was at my desk), and it was a free date for me and my wife, so we booked the new date (her was/is right after mine, 30 minutes apart).

I'd thought the 35 mile rule didn't apply until August, 2014.

Per the CCW Policy Update 2013-02-27:
Quote:
Effective August 1, 2014, all gun safety course providers must be located within a 35 mile radius of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department to remain as an active provider. The provider must conduct the classroom and live fire range viithin the 35 mile radius of the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department. Our Department Armorer and/or Sheriffs Representative will conduct spot checks on current course providers.
Did they tell you otherwise? I mean, did they tell you now (prior to August 1, 2014) that you had to get training with someone per the above policy (but ignoring the specified date)?

Yes, Personal Defense.

And all they do is refer you to their website for Stan Sheriff.

Good news: It looks like the scheduling interface is back online at the Sheriff's website.

Bad news: 1st available appointment is July 4, 2014. 10 months is better than it was, but still seems longer than should be allowed, IMHO. It seems to me that anything over 6 months needs to be addressed.

Here's my thoughts: Why not make it be a basic finger print and background check type process (plus training) to get a provisional license until the appointment date? After the background check is complete (Washington State does it in 30 days) and training is complete, provisional license could be issued. Once appointment date occurs, then the provisional is either make permanent or revoked.

I would find the present situation especially frustrating if I possessed a CCW from another state or California county and were moving to Stanislaus County and had to wait effectively a year (appointment + waiting for CCW to be issued) to get a CCW.
