SMS pics to e-mail addresses is my only guess how they got my number...
I haven't had Telemarketer calls for 10+ years until recent, and they know my name...

I recently installed Hiya, and it is helpful, very helpful, even w/out the subscript.

Can you install this, or something similar on iPhruity phones too?

Won't affect the Caller ID Spoofers much as they hijack a different number every time.

It is reported that Verizon will be releasing a free app designed to block robocalls by the end of the month.

I'm a Verizon customer and will install the app as soon as it becomes available, even though I'm seldom bothered by such calls because I never answer a call from any number that I do not recognize.

Not fast enough for me. I'm one of those hounded. Sure I block calls, report numbers to Verizon, but they keep coming. I avoid any number I don't recognize.

A coworker had the phone company block his elderly dads phone. Unless the phone # was in his phone, he could not get a call.

A lot of elder abuse happens when the too old folks chat with a stranger.

A method that can turn away some of the robo-call banks...

Get this three tone Disconnected Phone recording

Just record the first three tones ONLY when setting up your voice mail., then record your standard, "Hi, this is me, leave a message..."

A robo caller will note the three Bell System tones and list your phone as disconnected. Your friends and family will know the drill, infrequent, necessary callers usually get past the tones to hear you and live boiler room callers will click you as soon as they here the tones.

Hope it helps.

AT&T has an app for smart phones called "Call Protect" and it will notify you if the number is a spoof or known robo call. It works decently. Not perfect but has helped me avoid unwanted calls.

Besides registering on the Don't call me site, but still getting robo calls I did 2 things:

Land line answering machine recording....

Hello you've reached xxx-xxx-xxxx (my landline number) please leave a message after the beep, if you are a telelmarketer just hangup!

Cellphone is when I have some fun especially if they are using numbers from my old area code:

Hello, Sheriffs Dept Fraud Division can I help you?

Robo Caller, Yes you are on a recorded line for quality purposes......

Me, "Yes do you realize YOU are on recorded line also and we are tracking your number and location right now and will be issuing warrant shortly..."

Robo Caller: CLICK!!!!!

Wife starts laughing everytime I did this on my cellphone, it's so satisfying!

Ya know since I started doing this robo calls to either landline or cellphone have dropped of to zero!

if i can (drive a big rig with a spy cam watching me) i answer the phone, but no sounds from my end, the computer hangs up in about 15 seconds.
they have to pay a fee for completed calls, but if you do not answer they do not pay a fee to the phone company's.
robo calls have cut back to one or two every six days now.

FUNNY: the NRA actually called me the other day asking for renewal, asked for me by name, and they called my cell... but I am paid up until 2023, it seems, so I don't know why they called me.

I never gave them my cell, at least in the last 5-8 years, I've been using my Google Voice number for all signups, CC banks, and the like.

Before Google Voice I used to only give out my work fax number...

When my phone rings and it's not a number in my contact list if I answer I open with Backroom Storage, Johnny here.

9/10 they hang up as they think it's a business and a waste of their time. Hopefully they mark it as a bad number too.

Another clever answer is, "Go ahead, caller. You're live and on the air!"

1. Old fashioned call screening works.

2. VOIP systems let you block anything.

3. There is an old thread here still if you want to know how to go after these idiots to file for damages in small claims as long as you are verified on the "do not call list".

3-5 calls every day during business hours. Unless I recognize the number, I let it go to VM. If they don't leave a message, they get blocked.
Oh but you're not out of the woods yet. They ghost existing local land lines & cell numbers. I get phone calls from other cell #'s in the area. Call them back & it's some poor sap that has no clue.

That does not resolve the annoying multiple rings all day long.

I need my phone on in case someone needs to reach me. 15 spam calls a day makes my phone ring 30 times. I dont know why so many people CANT understand this.

Ain't that the truth. But it will hold 6500 numbers at the same time before you have to start overwriting them. Whack-a-mole.

I picked up one of these sets that has Call Block on the handset.

Phone was ringing every half hour with some politician or survey or solar company or free vacation deal or medical deal or insurance.

I hit the call block button so next time I hear a single ring and then it dies as call is blocked. After about a week of this the phone seldom rings and when it does its a legitimate call.

Find a phone with call block button.

https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-KX-...ateway&sr=8-34

I've not yet put the NRA on the block list but it is getting tempting.

^^^ the problem with that model and many like it is the limited number of 'blocked callers' you can enter. That model only allows 150
ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/telephone/om...d560_en_om.pdf

You will fill it up and then it is a minor hassle to erase some (hidden menu) but the real problem is you don't know which to erase because they are not sorted in any useful order (like oldest to newest).

So they are great until you hit the limit and then they are not so great. Been there and done that.

I have a contact that is blocked and add each new spam number to it. One blocked contact, a BUNCH of numbers.

A lot of you should never have given your cell numbers out when you bought something on the Internet... or when opening accounts. Even when I refinanced they had my Google Voice number, only, which goes straight to VM. My bank and CC's only have my that "VM" number.

I used to drop a Fax number when making purchases.

They have MY name and number in some OTHER way...

Please read more carefully.

Many people need their cell phones for people to contact them.

Leave the ringer Off? Why not just leave it at home?

I need to be accessible to my family. Turning off the ringer means no one can contact me, because i dont have the luxury of staring at my phone screen to see if it is ringing.

What I don't get is on April 16th both my wife and I received spam calls twice from our own cellphones!!!!!

Other than that robo and spam calls have virtually disappeared after answering with the line, "Sheriffs Dept Fraud Division, may I help you? Yes? You are on a recorded line also and we are tracking your location Warrant to be issued soon, click!!!!!! No more calls from that number!

Try it!

How can someone put a number on a Robo callers list? I had a solicitor place a medical marijuana flyer on my front door yesterday. It has a number to call. 1-855-633-4897 (1-855-MED-GUYS)

Asking for a friend...
