Default Is magnetic ammo allowed on your range? (BRRC range)

I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Does the BRCC range allow it?

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about armor piercing rounds.

Thanks

ETA: since those using the mobile version won't know. I posted this in the Burbank Rifle & Revolver club subsection.

Simple answer… call your local range and ask them.

For the ranges I go to, No, most of them don’t allow it.

General rule of thumb, if the tip of the bullet sticks to a magnet, lots of ranges won’t allow you to use it. Their reasons vary from fire risk to beating up the backstop.

I spoke with a member there and I get the impression that as long as you use common sense and use it on the ranges where there isn't a big fire danger, they are okay with it. And yes, I did ask specifically if I could shoot HXP with my Garand and they said yes. Didn't ask about the Mosins.

In general BRRC does not allow any magnetic ammo. However, if the fire danger is low it is usually acceptable to shoot the HXP ammo out of the Garand on the 100 yard line (which has a clear dirt backstop). It is not a good idea and not usually acceptable to shoot ANY magnetic ammo on the longer lines, both because the backstops are not as clear and because getting to the 600 yard pit once you've realized you started a fire is going to take a while.

This also applies to solid copper ammo, not just magnetic. I have a pair of melted shoes from stomping a copper ammo fire out on the 200 yard line there in the summer, it spread fast and we got very lucky. There are no facilities up there, nor is there any reception. If you set a fire you can't put out then you have to drive 10 min away and call the fire department. Do you want to take that chance?

I realized I may have sounded cranky which wasn't my intention, simply that the risk on anything but the 100 yard range on a low fire danger day doesn't seem to be worth taking.
