also found this while surfing and wonder if CGN has thought about this, it is a product that forum members could use and by rebranding it CGN whould get a % of the sale .. CGN does already have its "store" and its a no inventory sale .... just a thought ....

You promote your edition of MyGun through your website, mailings or whatever promotional material you use and for every copy one of your members purchases, you get a percentage of each sale.

What is needed on your end to participate?
A logo image for the Splash Screen in MyGunDB
Text for the About box
Any RSS feed you want included
The link to your homepage
A landing page on your site where your members can find out about the program and download it
That’s it! You accept payment for the purchases and send us the Name and Email Address for each purchaser so we can generate the registration code for the user. Then you send us our portion of the payments biweekly or monthly and nothing more needs to be done!

We provide all tech support and handle the registrations for you — your organization gets funding.

That's very cool. So simple to make from a programming standpoint (assuming you have decent knowledge/experience).

I think I would just do something similar in Evernote. It wouldn't have all the bells & whistles, but you could put the same kind of Information in there.

Yes, MyGunDB works on Macs, Windows and Linux machines, so you'd be good to go!

And soon IOS/Android...

Well, if he found it through Buds he should buy it from Buds, imnsho If people bought it straight from me even through they found out about it elsewhere, organizations wouldn't have need for rebranding and will stop promoting it to their users. By offering it to their members, they're essentially doing the marketing for it -- they deserve their cut, right?

That said though, registration keys for any edition works in any other edition.

I built my own with a little mysql and cgi. It's not like it's hard to write. Any idiot with excel can keep track of vital statistics. You can even associate pics. Use google apps version of excel and you're done. Why pay for what's already free.

I've been wanting to rebrand it for Calguns since I first got here

Using google docs won't make it ATF compliant for those who need a bound book (C&R's and FFLs). Also many people don't want to learn a spreadsheet system. It'd be rather difficult to duplicate MyGunDB using excel, nor would most people want to take that kind of effort.

Is it easy to write a database? Yup. Is it easy to write a good one? Nope. Is it easy to write a good one that most people can use without having to make significant modifications to meet their individual needs? Not even close.

Can it be done? Sure. But not many people want to put in the time and effort. It was like working a second, unpaid, full time job for many, many, months (and at times it still is) for me to do it. This all started because I needed a digital bound book for my C&R stuff but nothing out there met my requirements, nor those of the ATF, for doing that.

The fact that it is a business is a distant second to the fact that it is a hobby and a labor of love.

If you wrote your own firearm inventory system, why not make it available for others? I'm sure there are users out there that would love to check it out. The more choices for users, the better the users make out in the end, right?

I have been using the free version of mygundb for about 2 weeks. I have now reached my limit with the free version and have decided I want to purchase it for my personal use now and my soon to be ffl business will need it so I will be getting a license soon.

This program is great. I can add in all information I need to keep track of for the BATFT(Eventually) and for my personal collection. I would recommend this software to anyone who wants to track their gun stuff.

Exclamation Free Gun Collecting Software

I offer several and have been for many years. Please see the following links.

NM Collector Software is designed to run off of a USB flash drive so it can be run on any computer and kept in a safe place when not in use. It does run faster if run off of a hard drive so that is the recommended best practice. It can be backed up to a USB and run on any computer if you want to share your information with others. It also DOES NOT access the internet unless you click a link to go to my site for help.

It is currently sold by Brownell's as "Gun Collecting Software" even though it can handle all of your collections and even your Home Inveontory if you want it to. There is another very big vendor in the gun world who is considering carrying it as well - more on that if and when it comes through.

I am now a paid vendor on CalGuns so I can post this and have a link in my signature without violating any rules!

Thanks,

Actually, any purchase through http://calguns.MyGunDB.com will have a percentage go to support the CalGuns Foundation -- no rebranding needed, I'm just giving the foundation money to support the org beyond my Vendor status.

Just to correct you here, the "org" is not supported by your vendor status. Unless you're purchasing from calgunsfoundation.org or through their Amazon link, you're not supporting the "org". Your vendor status and any contributions to the ".net" go towards the for profit entity known as calguns.net, which hosts this forum.

To clarify, my vendor status supports calguns.net itself, but I am donating money of each sale of my program through the above link to the foundation. 2 separate things.

That's great, I was just responding to "I'm just giving the foundation money to support the org beyond my Vendor status."
