Remember, these are sales people, and if thay can drive the price up, they make more money and that's what they care about. Putting more money in their pockets and taking it out of ours. I know the ranges around here have been ghostly quiet lately. It's like people are afraid to shoot, because they won't be able to get more ammo. It's a sad thing, but I bought enough before the craziness started.
Warehousing isn't cheap. Not to mention the trouble they'd get into if caught price fixing.

People are not shooting faster than they are buying the ammo. Yesterday I shot through at least 1500 rounds of ammo.

If you see Gun Broker.com people are buying ammo, just to sell for higher prices and keep the supply low. There is at least 10,000,000 rounds of ammo for sale from price gouging Yes, that is ten million rounds of ammo.

On a side note, the supply drop is causing normal shooters to store more ammo than usual because people want to avoid paying high prices again, so any normal priced ammo is being kept so that normal shooters can actually shoot.

The market will start balancing itself out because people are going to start slowing down, mainly due to the weapons ban being thrown out today.

I hope all the *******s who depleted the ammo supply to make a profit and purchased all the AR-15's will just lose a ton of money.

The government is also retrograding lots of ammo from Afghanistan. In a couple of years there will be a huge flood of ammo in the market.

Just hang out, enable to beeper, and be ready. I got .22LR at 7 cents a round, and I've seen 5.56 on there for 50 cents a round. I was just a little too late to get some .45ACP at cheaper than I got it before the panic.

Gov has no money to buy - sequester.

Small vendors who are gouging had to pay for that inventory up front. They'll need to unload to cover their invoices soon.

Heres the problem with supply and demand. When the prices start to drop people will run out and buy it up just because its cheaper and they will still think there might be a ban. So supply will go down and prices will go up again. Unless there is a massive influx of ammunition and vendors decide to list a ton of inventory and drop prices. But like the housing market all you have to do it hold back inventory to keep demand up and as long as the demand stays up the prices will stay up. I doubt this will be the case will ammunition prices but it "could" happen. It would require ammunition plants to keep production levels limited and vendors to sell limited amounts in order to justify any sustained price hike. Since all vendors paid up front for ammo the longer the stuff sits on the shelf the longer they get a return on their investment.

Default Agree that $ of ammo will come down...but how far down is the question?

Definitely agree that you can't argue against the law of supply and demand. However, you also have to move to the next decision making point - when to sell so as to realize your highest potential profits. Inventory is all paper profit. To realize the gains, you need to sell it.

If folks are truly holding onto inventory to help keep prices inflated as some suggest, the danger in doing that is you may get caught selling at a lower price point once $ starts to come down. I don't think it's a supply problem per se, it's always been about the panic buying.

If I had stuff to sell, I sell NOW while prices are inflated ( and not risk leaving $ on the table). Part of investing in anything. Buying low, and then selling as high as possible before $s come down. Don't be the last out the door because like most irrational buying and selling, prices are going to come down as fast as they have risen. For me, I wonder whether we will see a new bottom price though.

All you D supporters got what you voted for-->CHANGE!

Change in gun prices
Change in ammo prices
Change in food prices
Change in gas prices

Ammo prices WONT go down for 4 years and here is why.

The dictatorship & Motherland Security has LOCKED in contracts for a 4.3 years production run on MOST manufacturing of ammo (9mm,40, 223, 308 etc) in the USA. They also went so far as to block MOST offshore ammo from coming into our country. Wonder why we cant get any cheap russian ammo?

Prices will stay high until he is gone. When Billary gets elected after Marxist exec orders amnesty and the D's get 45 million new voters its game OVER! Gun bans, bullet bans , mag bans, lead bans and a Lib on the SC to rule it all OK.

Was in the Bass Pro in Manteca this evening and they had about 80 boxes of 55grain 5.56 (Limit 5) for $10.69 a box. This is the first time I have found ammo at Bass Pro since the panic. Still no 22lr or 22mag yet tho

I got lucky and walked out of Walmart last week with 2x 1000 rds of Winchester M22 and a 555 box of 22LR. One of my backorders also came in the next day. It was made 6 weeks ago online and it finally shipped. I'd forgot about it actually. So suddenly, I got 22LR running out of my ears. My CZ rimfire rifle comes outta jail soon.

The ammo is out there, getting bought up, but out there. It will settle down soon and will certainly go through some swings before whatever the new normal is going to be.

I'm surprised at the lack of 9mm though.
