Hello all, I am new to the site and have been reading posts on the CCW in Solano County. I will be applying later this year but have started working on my Good Cause Statement. Who is the best person to send it to with Calguns for review? Also, will a small thing like a speeding ticket I got a year ago lower my chances of getting approved? Thanks for your help.

The Sheriffs office does request a DMV printout with your app. The speeding ticket could have an effect on your outcome depending upon how far over the speed limit, etc.

I believe there's no such person if you're referring to the CGF organization. The Calguns community at large is a different matter, most folks here are really helpful. This thread shows what others did ... research Solano as well as other counties' good cause statements, draft one that fits your particular situation, then PM it for critique by those who have just gotten theirs approved. |

A lot depends on how busy the Sheriff is. He reviews all the paperwork. I have seen with a couple of friends a couple of weeks to over a month.

Just kidding. Hope you get your call this week. Maybe the Sheriff was on vacation because of the holiday. I understand he personally reviews all CCW applications. Text me when you get called, I'll go with you if time permits and buy your nachos at WalMart! |

Hey everyone,
Ive been reading the ccw pages for solano county non stop and its given me hope that I may have a decent chance of being approved. Ive written my ruff draft of my good cause statement and was wondering if anyone that has been approved on basically "self defense" could read and critique my statement? |

Does anyone know anything about the restrictions placed on the permit by Sheriff Stanton?
I was looking over my packet last night which has a page showing all the steps in the process. The end of that page shows restrictions for all Solano CCW's: Quote:
What constitutes "Attending a social public function"? Would "c." include any restaurant that sells alcohol? Does "d." include OTC or non-impairing Perscription drugs? Does "e." include the non-sterile area of an airport? Anyone who's in-the-know, please shed some light on this. I grabbed the above list from Solano Co. Sheriff's website, CCW Page, "Standard Information Sheet" link: http://www.co.solano.ca.us/civicax/f...x?blobid=10375

Let's take a stab at (c) first:

As to places where narcotics are sold or dispensed, what comes to mind is RiteAid, CVS, Walgreens, etc. These drug stores dispense narcotics, don't they? So, what's the point of not being able to protect yourself in a place that probably might attract bad elements? This one doesn't pass the common sense test. But if memory serves me right, instructor said do it, anyway, concealed is concealed. Last edited by JimSar; 06-20-2011 at 6:04 PM.. |

Iirc any restrictions must be printed on the permit itself, not on a separate piece of paper they send you.
Yes, all pharmacies dispense narcotics and other dangerous drugs. If going by the 'letter of the law' in regards to the restrictions, a walmart walk is a big no-no. Experts will clarify better. Last edited by G60; 06-20-2011 at 5:29 PM.. |

Same Q re. high blood pressure meds, antibiotics (e.g., gingivitis mouthwash), acne meds, or any number of "prescription drugs." Where's the rational basis for the ban? It's over broad.

None of those restrictions were actually printed on any of the licenses that I've seen issued by Sheriff Stanton in at least the last six months.

I'm glad more Solano Calgunners are succeeding with the process. At least our county will have a chance with the crime going on...

New member, dont post much.............
I have parused and read about 1/2 Dozen threads on CCW's in Solano County. Ill be relocating there next month, from San Diego. My biggest question is the "Good Cause" Statement, Other than family protection I dont have a LEO position, or a Business. I am Retired Military, and a Hight Threat Security Contractor overseas. My other issue is that I work overseas 9 months out of the year, so a long drawn out process is compounded by me not being home alot to get Livescan/Training/ ect... done. Is it even worth it? I have my UTAH CCW, but want my home area CCW also. Any advice or assistance would be GREATLY Appreciated. |

^^Welcome to Solano County. As others on this forum, I don't have any "special" circumstances on GC statement, basically self defense, with a lot of elaboration on my view for self defense, and being proficient with firearm use, etc. I don't even have any prior military/police training either, so I'd say that can only be a plus for you.
As for your long periods of absences, I would call Debbie at the SO and explain your sitiuation. You could probably submitt your app and when you get your call for livescan, you schedule it to your convenience anyway, so if don't think it woould be a problem to schedule it say, a few months out. But that's just me talking. Again, welcome to Calguns and welcome to Fairfield. |

Welcome.
I agree with clcollin. It shouldn't be a big deal as far as the time. Just schedule things at your convenience. As far as the good cause, he is also correct, I believe that it's mostly just showing that you ar an upstanding citizen and don't come across like some wannabe vigilante. Emphasize prior training and show legitamate concern for the safety of your Family and yourself. Good luck. |
