Short Barreled Shotguns, "fixed shotgun shells" and snake shot
What is a "fixed shotgun shell"? California law says:
Penal Code 12020 (c)(1) As used in this section, a "short-barreled shotgun" means any of the following: (A) A firearm which is designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell and having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length. So if its under 18 inches and can fire a "fixed shotgun shell" its a short barreled shotgun. A Taurus Judge can fire a .410 "fixed shotgun shell" as well as .45 Long Colt so its a short barreled shotgun and can't be sold in California. A standard revolver in .45 with a standard, shorter, length cylinder can't fire a .410 shell, but it can fire one of these: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/76...shot-box-of-10 The CCI .45 shotshells are apparently legal in CA, as are all the .45 Long Colt revolvers that can shoot them. So I guess that means the .45 Long Colt shotshell is not a "fixed shotgun shell"? (Same goes for other caliber shotshells as well, of course). What makes the CCI .45 shotshell not a "fixed shotgun shell" and the .410 a "fixed shotgun shell"?

.45LC is primarily a handgun cartridge. If a .45LC shotgun existed, then .45LC handguns would be affected by CA SBS laws. Since no shotguns exist in the calibers that CCI makes as shotshells, they are not considered "fixed shotgun shells". |
