Default My 1st AR Build...

Whats up everyone I've been a member of this forum for a really long time I've just never posted. But I recently decided to build an AR before the ban hammer falls at the end of the year.

I recently bought two lowers from Guns Direct in Burbank. They had a flash sale of the Aero Precision Gen2 and I along with my brother decided to buy a couple. Between the both of us we bought 4 total. 2 for him and 2 for me

Couldn't pass up on the deal. Anyway here are some pictures of the build. It's not anything special but it's sure special to me! Most of the stuff I bought because it was readily available...I am going to build a really nice 2nd rifle with my 2nd lower.

The Aero Precision Gen 2 Lower

The Palmetto State Armory Magpul MOE lower build kit

Mil-Spec fire control system is in

Starting to resemble something here...

The Aero Precision upper ... Fits like a glove on the lower.

The MagPul MOE Mid Length Hand Guard

And of course we can't be Legal without one of these...

I also ordered 10 Hex Mags...I love these things!

Some new parts also arrived today...

Gotta learn to crawl before I walk... I figured I'd learn to use iron sights and once I have mastered these I can move up to a nice optic.

And here is The Balistic Advantage Modern series Midlength 16 Barrel

I am waiting on the Charging handle, and my Nickel Boron BCG From AIM. Also have to get the front sight drilled and pinned to the barrel. But I am hoping to have it finished by 4th of July!

Like I said it ain't much and it ain't no fancy thing with all the bells and whistles but it will do for now!

Nice job! Did you go ar15 bcg or m16? And absolutely nothing wrong with getting a cheap red dot sight right off the bat. And lastly, i always add extended latches to most charging handles for people who are new to ar15's /ar10's. One of the Best 9.99$ you can spend(in my honest opinion )

Next you need to get an ar10 (well, LR-308, dpms type) as well. P.m me and ill let you know where you can get a full 18-20" LR-308 rifle kit for $599 (all u need is your own lower) with all the bells and whistles and all u.s made parts, no cheap chinese junk.

Yeah I haven't decided what I am going to build with the other lower yet. There are some options out there like the AR-10 or a 300 blackout. I would love a suppressed SBR, but we live in California and the only way that happens is if I move out of Cali ... Which is becoming more and more tempting.

Nice rifle! It is something special to assemble a rifle and shoot it, and you get to do it again. Shoot the first one a bunch before you start on the second. I built a carbine and 20" rifle. Consider buying a third lower for the future.

Yeah I am thinking I am going to try and buy a couple of more before the end of the year. I can't wait to get it complete so I can take it out for it's maiden voyage. It is a little heavy so I might take a shot a building something light as well.

Im right there with you. It sucks cause i could build a good silencer in under 2 hours and if i lived in any other state, all i would need to do is pay for the tax stamp, and once i got it, build it and bam.....legal! hate California

Did your barrel come pre drilled with the holes for the front sight/gas block or do you have to do that yourself?

No I have to get it drilled and pinned. I was going to go to Rifle Gear in Orange County, but some of the guys here lead me to Randall from AR15Barrels. I emailed him but he has not responded back yet. If I don't hear from him I will bite the bullet and make the long drive down south to get it done.

I am for doing things myself but I don't have a drill press to try and do this and it's not worth going out to buy a drill press just to get this done.

I haven't got to build myself my own ar10 yet, even though i have helped friends build all of there's. But all my friends have ordered 16" barrels (which i disagreed repeatedly about). It's kinda like cutting 10" off of my Remington 700!

Smartest statement in this thread :

I figured I'd learn to use iron sights and once I have mastered these I can move up to a nice optic.

I was going to spring for an EoTech Red Dot, but @ $600 I figured why not just really continue to save for what I really want (Trijicon ACOG) and learn to use what I have. It would be stupid of me to put a nice expensive optic only to be **** out of luck if it ever failed.

I work in IT so I have a strong mindset of making sure I have a backup for everything and make sure the backup works properly. If my optic ever fails I need make damm sure I know how to use those Iron sights.

Have you tried any of those acog clones? I had one for awhile, and for 100$ i say it was pretty good. Considering it always stayed on target, and the optics were decent (not near as good as the real deal, but i would definitely say usable). And the fact that it did use real fiber optics, and the bullet drop marks were darn Close, i kinda miss it now.

I know I'm going to be receiving a ton of flack over that last post. but untill you use one, i say its a decent starting point to see if being limited to only 4× is the route you want to go

So I got a little bored of the all black and decided to make a few changes I also forgot to mention that the barrel has been drilled and pin and the whole thing has been test fired already!

I fell in love with the Olive Drab look and I just had to replace all my MagPul stuff and my HexMags I couldn't help myself

My next project is right here ... gonna send out my Glock17 to have some stippling done on the frame by Renatus Arms and I am also going to have him do some frame work for me. So be on the look out for that one!
