Default Red dot for handgun / range use / Rec. for 3 guns...

(Probably the 100th post like this) Here it is again...
Well, I can't take it. Am throwing in the towel as my groups have opened up to around 3" at 7 yds. And 25 yds is now terrible. Feels like I am just throwing money towards the targets.
Will be 58 this summer, so it's probably time. Have only ever have 2 scopes.
A 2x Leo on an 8 3/8" 44 mag purchased over 25 yrs ago,
and a Simmons 6-18x.40 competition airgun scope on a bull barrel 10/22 purchased over 15 yrs ago. Both work great, but have never owned a red dot.
I look at red dots out SHOT show every year, but have never really considered getting one. And all the various models and options are almost overwhelming.
Have a Romeo5 for a 10/22 TD in the mail, and would like target options for handguns. Rather than action shooting or home defence.

As I cant justify putting optics on everything, I picked three pistols for regular range use. And the rest will just sit or shoot larger groups. Still shoot well enough to easily qualify with open sights. Just looking to get back, or close to back to shooting smaller groups.
Here is what I will be shopping for. As they will accept a RD base more easily than some of my older guns.

S&W TRR8 (has a rail)
H&K VP9 long slide
S&W Performance center model 41 (has a rail)

Thanks in advance.
And sorry for the long drawn out post..........
But thought the xtra info might be helpful.

I am very happy with quality and service of Raptor bases for S&W. If you email him, he will combine shipping on two or more bases.
As far as RDS, most of mine are Burris FastFire 3 with 3MOA dots, I get them of eBay for @$150-180 new or like new. Burris has lifetime warranty and great service.

Comparison of RDS S&W mounts. If your S&W handguns are current models, then they are already per-drilled for mounts.

Thanks!
Still trying to decide, reflex red dot sight or a tube style red dot?
As its for target use. Plan to buy the same optic for use on all 3.
Will ck Burris FastFire 3. Thanks again!

I recommend you have your eyes checked first before investing into red dots/optics. Since you listed your age, that may have a lot to do with it. If you have bad astigmatisms, that may be a factor on your future optics purchase as well.

Most of my "equipment" I have some sort of optics installed due to vision. I am left eye dominant but right handed. I shoot pistols with my left eye and rifles with my right eye. My right eye is probably about 20/50 and I couldn't see the target well with irons and my groups too were opening up. I also have a bad astigmatisms on my right eye which makes red dots a double blur or star burst. Most of that has been solved now with etched reticles and /or magnified optics. Before my groups "really sucked" now with the optics my groups just "suck"

(Same exact boat as you, thought I was alone.) Would like to get back to suck. Used to be a different story...
Have a astigmatism in the R eye. But not the left. Am also R handed / left eye dominant so red dots works with handguns. Strange case over here.
Left eye, can see the target but not the sights. R eye, see the sights but not the target. Pick one.. Good times..... lol lol
Note, do you see a bunch of grapes with your red dot / R eye? I do...........

Same eyesight issue here. Regardless of what sight choice you make, you need to be able to focus at that close distance. Discussing it with my eye doctor, we agreed upon an Rx that allows my eyes to "see" the front sight at 28 inches from my eyes and also the target at the same time. Kind of like weak reading glasses from Rite-aid.

I have a couple and they work great. Only issue I had with one was me breaking it (exposed lense) with a screw driver and the lifetime no questions Burris warranty replaced in in about 3 weeks during one of the big giveaways where you could get a FF3 free with purchase of the AR536 or AR332... one of mine was free and the other was $190 IIRC... work great on a Glock or on a PC Carbine or a semi-auto shotgun in my experience. One of mine is on a Mossberg 930 and the other is on a MKII .22 Target pistol, but I had them on Glocks first (including a 10mm), and a PC Carbine.

If you are using the FF3 with included PIC low-mount it is more versatile than some others because it can be used on WEAVER or actual Picatinny. I have a cheap Weaver rail on my shotgun and a Picatinny only mount like the one that comes with Nikon Spur was a no-go. Annoying.

Ordered a Burris Fastfire III 3MOA today.
Also got this for a 10/22 I am working on.
But as I am waiting for 10/22 parts, I threw it on this for fun.
Will try it out tomorrow. So far, seems really nice!
The small base that came with the S&W is much heavier than the optic.

Worked out great! Got my groups back to normal. 1" and under rather than 2-3". That was killing me... lol lol Pulling it off to install on the backpacker.
