Get your CCW (Learn More) Step by step process: 1. Obtain an application from Ventura County Sheriff Records and Licensing at 800 S. Victoria Ave. Ventura Ca 2. Complete application, do not spend too much time on the section asking you to list guns. You could leave it blank or put down “not sure”. The only guns that will be put on your permit will be the ones that you can pass the training course with. Of course you can write down as many as you want, it will not matter. But do not rush out and purchase a gun just to complete that line!! 3. Return completed application and wait for interview. 5. Get trained!! It will take the Sheriff up to 1 year to process your application. It will take the average person at least several months to recieve the proper training from TACFIRE. 6. After the interview you will be notified that you either “do not meet the criteria” or that you are “pre-approved” and need to return to records and licensing to get your finger prints taken. 7. It takes approximately 30 days to process your fingerprints. If they come back OK than they will ask for a course completion certificate and other testing material so that they can complete your permit. 8. The permit will be good for 2 years and may have restrictions. We at TACFIRE take this CCW concept very seriously. Our training is very comprehensive and includes: handgun selection; holster selection; support gear; how to conceal the handgun; how and where to carry your permit and other ID; ammunition selection; how to challenge the threat and control them; How not to shoot every time you present the pistol and Most of all we will teach you to be safe and to avoid the need to use deadly force!!

Well I am going to wait; just called VCS to request a permit, lady asked what my good cause was, I answered "personal protection" and she said bluntly that that does not typically fly unless yada yada and that you really do need a good cause.
Just a heads up guys

From Librarian, Calm down folks. Great win. Changes very little. 1) SD will appeal, so no immediate changes. That means there is no point to applying in places like LA or SD just yet; other issuing agencies may, as Sacramento, see 'the writing on the wall' and change policies 2) ONLY the 'good cause' part would change if this is upheld - still must - apply - pay - do fingerprints - pass background - do training - list firearms - receive the permit |

Here is the process for Ventura County.
1. Call to set up appointment to turn in application. 2. Turn in application, pay initial fees, get fingerprinted. Can take up to 30-days to get results back. 3. Minimum 30-days until you are called for interview 4. Sheriff will conduct detailed background 60+days 5. Approval/denial letter sent to you 6. If approved, pay remaining fees, they will send/give you list of authorized trainers to take class, test and qualification shoot. 7. You list firearms that you actually test with. 8. Once sheriff signs they will send you CCW permit in mail.

I would wait to train until you actually receive approval. I know individuals that trained once they turned in application and did not receive approval. The cost varies but generally there is a cost for taking the course and a qualification cost per firearm.
I also recommend that those who apply be polite and do not demand things the staff is very helpful through the process and were very nice.

This is great news....please keep us apprised of updates on this. I would love to get my CCW but, I know there is still a lot of dust flying around before our SD will change their current policies.
Is there a place I can see the current list of fee's and the typical cost of the training class? |

Hi all,
I scanned a blank copy of the application to my laptop last night. Not sure if I can post the complete document here (I tried to upload it, but the file is too large). I would be willing to send via email to someone who is a little more knowledgeable about posting in the forum. If anyone wants to PM me, I will send the pdf through email **the copy I have is about 8 months old or so. |

Ventura County Sheriff comments on the 9th Circuit decision
Ventura County Sheriff comments on the 9th Circuit decision
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=893888 posted by VictorFranko My friend Rick forwarded this to me a few minutes ago: ____________________________________________ Hi Rick,, Nature of Incident: Sheriff Comments on Federal Court of Appeals Case Decision Regarding California Concealed Weapons (C.C.W.) Permits Location: Ventura County Date & Time: February 14, 2014 @ 11:30 a.m. Unit(s) Responsible: Sheriff’s Administration Narrative: A three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit made a significant ruling regarding the issuance of concealed weapons permits and what criteria may or may not be used in denying a permit. California laws currently authorize citizens to carry a concealed weapon upon receiving a permit that is based on a showing of good cause to need to carry, having good moral character, and passing a background check. The court has struck down the good cause portion of the current law. Our legal staff is actively reviewing the case to clearly understand what guidelines will now be in place. I will, of course, comply with those guidelines and make changes in our current policy as soon as the details are clarified. Talked to Islandview and they said its $300 for the CCW class at their range
It's 16 hours total for the class 8 hours per day Saturday and Sunday They're scrambling to get information on their site and excited to get this going for all of us. They will have a section to make payment on their site. |

It looks like you can download the application here:
http://www.vcsd.org/ccw-permits.php Meanwhile, this application is a bit older, but has a list of approved trainers - which I don't think is on the current form. http://www.vcsd.org/pdf/CCW%20App%20...rch%202013.pdf Do we need to have the training completed before we turn in the application? Or can we submit the application right away to get the ball rolling and then take the training in the meantime (i.e. the more efficient and time saving option). Island View training would be very convenient because it's so close and I really like their range... But I'm also uncertain if I should commit so soon since I'm relatively broke and the whole process is expensive! It would suck to go through everything only to have the en blanc accepted and then the full 9th circuit court reverse the decision and take CCW back to "may issue." >_>
