What and where is Two Rock? I just moved to Sonoma Co., and was planning on using Pine Flat. That's obviously not going to happen anytime soon and am looking for other shooting spots...
ETA: ...I take it two rock is the Circle S ranch range?

Don't knock the owner too much, he keeps the range open because he knows there are no other places to shoot locally and he is an avid supporter of the 2nd amendment. Its not a money maker and the Marin douche bags make him jump through many hoops to keep it open.

I have met him a couple of times and he was a pretty nice guy.

Did you have a bad experience with him?

The owner is just really 'intense'. He doesnt provide for a very comfortable recreational environment when he is around. I've seen him YELL at people quite a few times. Sometimes they deserved it, but generally I think he goes overboard. It was pretty intimidating when I went there first few times.

His staff, however, is quite reasonable.

I've always wanted to try out circle s ranch. Can you see the 200 yard and 300 yard targets from prone? Looks like the 100 yard berm might block them.

I dont think they let you shoot prone at circle s
and if they did you probably wouldnt see the 200 and 300 yard targets

You can shoot prone, even from the cement benched area. I HATE bench shooting as its totally usless.

Seeing the 200 & 300 is seasonal and lawmower-dependant. rather, if the grass is too high and the owner spends the time to cut it.

How is Circle S right now? Got a new spotting scope and I was thinking of trying my hand at some distance but don't really feel like slogging through the mud.

Yeah like i said i really like the people who actually work it they are cool. But one of my bad/weird experience was literally he yelled someone for touching there gun when they where checking guns for people to go down range perfectly fine that's the rules. every one goes down range except me and a few other people. he actually picks up his .22 revolver and starts showing some one WHILE PEOPLE ARE DOWN RANGE. THEN HE AIMS IT DOWN RANGE.given he aimed it the pistol berm people where out beyond the berm his workers started to yell at him that people where down range put the pistol down. he looks at him like only other people have to follow the safety rules. i don't know how you feel about that but if i would have been down range i would have been F***ing pissed about him touching a gun.

+1... it's gonna be very soggy out there for a while, especially since it's probably going to start raining again next week. Been so cold the ground around Petaluma isn't drying out at all.

I've been lurking this thread. Going to head out myself on the KLR. Will let you all know how it looks.

Edit: Apologize for the necro post. I felt this info might be pertinent to some.

Agreed. Seriously, who is going to take his place if he bowed out? I know he is not making real money. A lot of people in this sport can be abrasive, one thing is they need someone they trust to let them know where they are bumping heads.

I agree with the "intense" aspect, but I'm not sure which one is the owner. There is a young guy out there who likes to yell, too. I was posting a target on the 100 yard line once on their rather rickety stands which are usually overly packed with old targets, and he starts yelling something to someone. None of us could hear him or had any idea who he was directing it to. When I get back he says, "hey, why do you want to mess up my targets". I said, "WHAT"? He says something about sticking a target to close to the crosspost, and I tell him that the crosspost was falling off and I was trying to fix the GD thing. He says, "oh", and walks off. Kind of a jackass. But I DO agree and understand that they have a difficult time keeping the place open, and one of the reasons I was told they can't fix anything up is because the county demands permits for ANYTHING and they will not issue any, so when it finally falls apart the county will condemn it and shut them down. So he does what he can to keep it open and in the face of the Marin gun-haters. In that regard, I'll put up with a bit of jackassiness!

Near Cobb Mountian... that would be Boggs State Demonstration Forest, managed by Cal Fire. On 175 between Middletown and Kelseyville in Lake County. Site below has links to both locator and site maps.

http://www.fire.ca.gov/resource_mgt/...s_boggsmtn.php

The BLM link in the post above is for Cow Mountain, east of Ukiah.

Last time I went to Boggs a CalFire guy came up to me and suggested I join the Konocti gun club. He said they were trying to shut the range down because people shoot the trees and kill them and shoot way uphill at an angle that would make it easy for bullets to clear the hill. I've also noticed that the cleanliness has gone downhill. Hope this place stays open as it's pretty much my regular shooting spot.

If I am free, I am up for it. Nasty weather has kept me, my toys and my new spotting scope inside.

Well not the spotting scope so much. But looking at birds ain't much fun.

As far as circle s being the only option on the table, it would be nice to do it somewhere a little less regulated

Does anyone know of private property where we could get permission to hold this?
