If 22's with mags are going to be assault rifles...should I buy one?
I'm looking to buy a new 22lr rifle for plinking and punching holes in paper, and it looks like the 10/22 take down (which is my first choice) is going to be classified as an "assault rifle." Now I'm debating whether or not I should even bother with buying one.
I already have a tube fed 22lr...it's awesome and older than I am! but a bit of a pain in the arse to load when shooting with someone else. I like the idea of having someone load their own magazine while I shoot mine; maybe even loading several. What are your thoughts on going out and buying a 10/22 before the law's passed (or not passed; fingers crossed...please, please, please!)? Is it worth it? I use my 22lr more than any other gun and the one I'm using is 40+ yrs old. |

Yes.
And contacting your elected officials. Joining the NRA.

or register it and shoot it at the range and then you have the choice comply or not when/if there's confiscation. |

Not to troll, but isn't that the same mentality that goes with the panic buying and hoarding that causes shortages and increased prices?

Everyone should buy one, or more. And then tell their friends to buy one too

Lastly, does anyone have any experience with the takedown model? Is it a pain in the rear or incredibly convenient? Accuracy an issue at all? |

I doubt ranges are going to make people prove they are registered before allowing you to shoot.

I have a 795 that jams alot. I'm considering hunting down a 60, so I can have Marlin awesomeness without stupid magazine related jamming.

No,it's these stupid laws that will probably pass that are the real cause.

I have 4 50rd Butler Creek mags to go with my 1994 10/22. They also work great in my new stainless 10/22, unfortunately the 3 - 50 rd Ramlines don't work well at all now. So I feel confident I legally owned these 50 round mags prior to 2000. THAT will be my arguement if questioned about ownership. |

Dunno about the annual fee, BUT once they find a cash cow they never let her back out to pasture!

This makes me wonder. If the $19 charge is to cover the "expense" of filing the registration paperwork; 1) If we have to pay them extra .... why do they draw a salary now? Are they paid per piece of paper? 2) Does it really cost $19 to file the form? Are the DOJ employees taking the forms, travelling to Mordor and then flinging them into Mount Doom? Or are they typing in your name and rifle serial number into a computer? |

I'll bet those same politicians will also be counting on campaign contributions from the insurance industry once they access the registry and raise your rates on homeowner's insurance because they find that you own an "assault rifle".

I'am not going to register anything. If I get stopped they can expect some trouble from me....... I am willing to die fighting these insane, needless laws.
Bit by bit, little by little they chip away at lawful citizens and our rights. Who would even think for a minute that a .22 rifle is some sort of assault weapon? This is totally ridiculous. Just my opinion and the way I feel about it.

takedown is awesome! Accurate as my old carbine, or more so. I don't use the nifty bag though, my scope is too long. So the bag holds an old 12 gauge. Not sure if it is worth the price differential though. I don't regret the purchase at least.

I will use my Savage 4,5,6 and 7 as manufactured. All were purchased as C&R and are for the most part under the radar. They don't look like assault weapons, two of them are bolt action. When in the field I shoot at a fairly slow pace so no one would suspect them of being semi automatic.
My Erma Carbine and Colt Umarex AR-15 I will take way out into the boonies to go shooting. In the mean time I will continue to support the NRA in its fight against Anti gun legislation. I will support Cal Gun activities. Ed |
