COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This accelerated 1-day course satisfies the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Initial Training requirements.

Recognizing that many shooters have a higher level of ability, this course is intended to provide the qualified, advanced and experienced shooter an alternative training session, while maintaining the same academic training standards. After we validate your safety, gun handling and shooting proficiency, we have you shoot the standard OCSD-approved qualification course of fire, then immediately transition to the classroom for all of the standard academics.

This course adheres to the concept of “training to standard, not to time,” by moving at a pace that accommodates the student body’s capabilities and limitations.

Because of the shortened overall training schedule, it’s important to everyone that we enforce higher levels of standards. If you are not up to the task, please attend our normal 16-hour program of instruction.

Bottom line: This course is designed to accommodate the shooter with a higher level of skill, not to enable the mediocre to “slide by.” In order to ensure quality controls, enforce firearms handling proficiency and mitigate a mass-production mentality, we are applying an additional quality control to the standard program of instruction.

Prior to shooting the qualification course of fire, we require you to pass our safety and skills assessment. Throughout all assessment events, we will look hard at your abilities, with a focus on:

• Maturity of shooter.
• Overall technical proficiency.
• Deliberate movements/actions.
• Application of all Life Firearm Safety Rules at all times.

If the student fails to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in any area, the student will be immediately removed from the class; at the sole discretion of the lead instructor.

Our standards are unwavering. If you are not up to the task, please do not enroll.

If the student fails to achieve any of the live fire testing requirements, the student will forfeit $200 of the $300 tuition fee upon immediate dismissal. The remaining $100 is credited toward attendance at any of our normally scheduled 16-hour CCW or Pistol 1.0 courses.

ASSESSMENT EVENTS

FUNDAMENTALS OF MARKSMANSHIP VALIDATION

• Failure to achieve the standard will result in immediate dismissal from class.
• Test: Grouping exercise/test at 3 yards. Given 3 1” squares as aiming points, the shooter will fire 4 rounds at each of the 3 squares. At least 2 of the 3 groups must be “ragged holes” created by all the bullet strikes touching each other. Shooters will have no more than 3 minutes to complete this basic test.

BASIC SKILLS VALIDATION

All shooters will demonstrate:
• Unload & show clear.
• Proper draw stroke, presentation and re-holstering, unconcealed.
• Proper draw stroke, presentation and re-holstering, concealed.
• Single shot from holster, unconcealed, untimed, 7 yards.
• Single shot from holster, concealed, untimed, 7 yards.

Failure to demonstrate safe and skillful execution of the Basic Skills Validation will result in immediate dismissal from class.

LIVE FIRE PERFORMANCE TESTING

Range/Action/Target Location/Starting Position/Time Limit

10 yards, Controlled Pair, Center Mass, Holster, 2.7 sec

• 100% of shots must hit within the target outline:
o Rounds that strike any part of the silhouette’s outline are a miss.
o The entire round must strike within the silhouette border.
• 60% of all shots must hit the target’s center scoring area:
o Rounds that strike any part of the center scoring area are a hit.
• All shots must be fired within the time limit indicated.
• Any impact or timing violation will result in test failure and immediate dismissal from class; one retest.
