Thumbs up Amador

UPDATE 2015 Oct 03: Because of post #37 below, I'm adding a "thumbs up" symbol for Amador. Paladin

10 rounds on a B27 target in 18 seconds from 15 yards (48ft) seems a bit edgy for the range of a belt to belly snubby, and questionable regarding to distance between threat and retreat. I wonder how many of the 56 are packing?

Former A/C kid here! I miss it!

I can think of 4 or 5 if I still get to be included.

Default Amador CCW Course of Fire

For anyone who hasn't yet heard, the Amador County Sheriff's Department has revised their CCW range qualification requirements to the following:
  • 5 yards - shoot 5 rounds, reload, shoot five more rounds (12 seconds)
  • 10 yards - shoot 5 rounds, reload, shoot 5 more rounds (15 seconds)
  • 15 yards- shoot 5 rounds standing, reload, shoot 5 more rounds kneeling (18 seconds)
All of this is to be done on an NRA B27 target (or similar) and all 30 rounds must be in the "target zone". I just verified with Undersheriff Wegner that the "target zone" is considered to be anywhere in the body silhouette.
Due to the number of renewal applicants who are having trouble passing this course (the time more so than the accuracy), I am holding renewal courses that combine my standard 4 hour renewal course with my 4 hour pistol proficiency course. This is a nice added benefit for anyone looking to renew or anyone who's wanting to enhance their pistol proficiency skills.

Here's a link to my course description: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...22#post6320522

As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions - (209) 401-0907.

Yeah, I'm an A/C ex-pat as well. No work up there, unfortunately. Love to get back up there every chance I get. I have family there.

I turned in my application last month 03/2015, when I did the lady told me it would take the full 90 days before I hear from them.

Did they give you a receipt? The guy did not collect my money or want to verify serial numbers. I found it odd as my paperwork was in order. When I asked to pay him he said you will get a letter in the mail from the undersheriff with what to do next.

Once they approve all your paperwork, they call you to come in for a live scan, thats when you pay.

Updates? I turned mine in last month, still waiting. I have a current CCW in Sac County (was told it's still valid for 90 days), so I am hoping they don't take the full 90.

I have yet to hear anything, 6-16-2015 will be the 90th day. The lady I turned my paperwork into was very clear "It will take ALL 90 days before you hear from us". I asked how they would respond and she said they would probably call me to have me come in for my live scan.

The 16th was my 90th day and I did not hear from them. Today I went to the SO to turn in my application to join their SAR team and ask about my CCW. The lady who looked into it told me "its on the under sheriffs desk waiting for him to review, so just whenever he gets to it, ok" I said "ok, thank you" smiled at the lady and left. Not really sure what to do now, guess I just have to wait longer.

Yeah... not a lot of communication from them. Kind of bizarre...

I'm still about 3 weeks from my 90 days, so hopefully the sheriff gets yours off his desk, so he can get to mine.

120 days has come and gone. Still no approval and they still need to run my live scan. I'll be lucky if I get my CCW by years end.

I got a call from the under sheriff back in July saying he had to respond within the 90 days, so he was calling to let me know it was in process. He said they were short staffed and were going through them as quick as the could. From that point, it's been quiet.

Nothing here... All quiet. My guess is that this process will drag out even longer with the fires. I imagine they are stretched pretty thin.

Well there is hope for y'all. I called the S.O. today. I talked to the under sheriff's office and she was shocked on how long I had been waiting. Short story long, I was approved and I have an appointment for livescan.

Had my appointment this morning. Everything went well. Live scan happened Serial Numbers verified, money paid. Now it is 3 1/2 month wait for DOJ. As soon as Erin gets the Letter from Sacramento (DOJ) she will issue my permit. Looking at January 15th. 8 Months after my initial application went it.

W/o giving so much detail so as to ID yourself, can you share w/us what your Good Cause statement was like? Was merely "self-defense" sufficient?

Self defense was not enough. The under sheriff and I had a long discussion on what he wanted. One of the things he mentioned was having to go to Sacramento for a It's appt or shopping or work or school or...... And you want to have protection for you and or your family since you go to a bad part of town... Me, I hit the bank almost daily to deposit customer checks, standing at the atm in the evening can be daunting. Just explain your self. They take self defense but not in those words. Thx. I've updated the OP and added a "thumbs up" to encourage Amador's law-abiding residents to apply.

Live scan complete, fees paid, sit and wait for my new permit. The person told me to expect the live scan to take close to 3 months... I don't think I've ever had one take that long. Either way, as soon as the results come back, they mail the permit out (you sign and thumb print your permit at the live scan appointment).

I will say that Amador has been very easy to do, but my Sacramento CCW was a much more streamlined process.
