38s and 357s
I'm sure there are a lot of you with a safe full of revolvers, but these are my 38s and 357s.
When I started shooting in my younger years I've always dreamt of having a collection of 6" stainless revolvers, 686, GP100, King Cobra, Dan Wesson and a Taurus 66. I can live without the Taurus, but I'm still looking for the Dan Wesson.

Nice collection of wheel guns Jef! I just picked up my first revolver...a 6" Ruger GP100, but I haven't gotten a chance to take her out for a spin yet! It was a toss up between the GP100 and 686, but for some reason the Ruger felt more comfortable in my hand. I'll eventually get the 686...

Cool! Maybe when you come around Richmond R&GC we can bring both of our GP100s and compare a brand new one to one that is more than 20 years old that has thousands of rounds through it.

I'm a big fan of .38's and .357's; I'm especially fond of the N-frame .357 Magnum revolvers. The Obama Panic was good to me because a lot of folks seemed to be pawning their unsexy revolvers to pick up a Tantal or AK or EBR before they were banned; I managed to snag a pair of rare 5" 27's (one with the presentation case and tools) as well as a less-hard-to-fine 3 1/2" Pre-27, along with a 627-0 of which only ~5,000 were made or so.
I also love the K-frames and the J-frames but my heart and wallet move when I see an N-frame for sale. Here's a few shots of my 27-3 and 627-0: ...a little oldschool topstrap checkering: My two Bodyguards and a 36-nodash: My 581-nodash with Target wood: 27-3 with Eagle grips; my 28-2 Highway Patrolman, 66-nodash (note stainless rear sight), and 586-nodash: My 66 with just Magnas installed:

Here's a family portrait, all .38 or .357:
Pair of Model relatively rare 5" 27's (one a -2, the other a -nodash with Magna grips that number to the gun): Another family portrait; 6" 27-3, 5" 27-2, and 4" 28-2: Aforementioned 5" 27-2 with box and tools!: One 4-screw 27-nodash and one 5-screw "Pre-27" .357 Magnum:

A PM from CenterX just reminded me I hadn't included pics of one of my favorite .357's: my M19 snubbie; this one is a little unusual in that it has a target hammer (.500") and smooth semi-target (.400") trigger installed.

Dang!
Very impressive - here's a couple more. The Pre M28 is one of my favorites to shoot, I don't believe any of the others has such a crisp trigger. Bruce Model 19-6 Model 19-3 Pre- Model 28 Highway Patrolman Model 60ND Model 10-5

After Trashman's display, I'm almost embarrassed!
But JT, your timing is impeccable. Here are mine, but it include the 617 (10 shot/22) I picked up just tonight! The rest are 38/357. So here is the Noobie meeting his "Family" Sorry I'm not more pic post friendly... Clockwise from top left...GP100, 686-6, 617 center, 10, 642, 28

Nice job Bruce! I want one of those 617s, they seem super sweet.
Soon as I'm not working 7 days a week, I'll try to take some decent pix of my modest collection. But to get things going on the Colt side, here's a '74 4" Python and a '54 4" Official Police: But not to leave S&W's out, a 2.5" 66: |

Well, sirs, and ladies, I've burned thousands of rounds through that old 3 1/2 inch 19, and it only locked up once quite recently, and the gun smith at the range fixed it, spot on, no charge. The gun salesman told me that 19s were not really designed for .357s; they were designed too close to the edge of the envelope, and lasted longer on a diet of .38 and .38 + Ps. So, what was I going to say? What I did say was, "Well, shoot, that gives me an excuse to buy a real .357 magnum!" The salesman agreed, and showed me a beautiful little stainless job that fit my hand like one of my other favorite body parts. Comments? I remember when the 19 came out; I was a cop at the time in the late '60s, and one of the older officers was showing off his brand new S&W 19 .357. I was carrying an older Highway Patrolman (later stolen from my car) at the time, and did not pay much attention. So I have restricted my 19 to a diet of .38 + Ps (I think it's too late to save her; I dropped her in a toilet once, but she still shoots ....), and my 36 to .38s. The Chiefs Special is another story: I've put +Ps through her, but she is still nearly virginal. Sweet young thing: I bought her from my dad circa 1990, but he got her circa 1970. Her hammer can skin the dead skin from my old hoofs - read precise metal checkering. I'll post more images when I can; for now, just writing about my modest collection of handguns is satisfying. Did I describe the Colt SAA Calvary model I purchased new in Eugene, Oregon, in 1964? Last edited by Lead Lobber; 11-03-2009 at 5:32 PM.. |

Thing is, nobody seems to be able to FIND (or show) a Model 19 or 66 that's actually been 'shot loose' by a steady diet of magnums. --Neill

N-frame - the original .357 (and largest .357 frame) K-frame - smaller frame, based on the M&P .38 special L-frame - a compromise between the N and K frames. J-frame - the Chief's Special .38 (5-shot); later redesigned to accomodate th .357 magnum (ouch, my hand!) ...I prefer the N-frames myself for nostalgic reasons, but all are excellent guns. --Neill

JTROKS -
Here you go. Not a .38 or .357 but, it's one of my favorite plinking handguns. I'm still looking for an early Model 17 K frame. The J frame works fine. Bruce Model 63ND

I finally got to take some new pictures of my stainless S&Ws. I'll see about getting a family pic of my Colts this week as well.
Meet the newest family member, a 4" 627 Pro Series. I'm already loving this one! And the stainless frames all together: 627 686+ 66 640 |

The "Collection" (accumulation) is not complete without some type of classic wheel-gun. I've moved almost completely away from the semi's as I find the revolvers much more asthetically pleasing. Not to mention more reliable. I do still have the obligatory 1911, MKII, & combat 9mm but, it's mostly revolvers for me. Unless, of course, I find a nice Colt, BHP, or German PPK/PPKs. Must be somewhat diverse. Bruce

Nice guns in here. I definitely want to get a SS 686 one of these days, but I have other priorities at the moment. All I have at the moment is my Model 15.

Beautiful revolvers! As you noticed that I don't have too many blued revolvers. Seeing all these classic blued revolvers makes me want an early model 10.
Please post a pic of that Model 15.
