How long does it take from time of completion of your corse until I can get my actual guard card? (IE, I finish your class on tuesday, and I submit my paperwork to the state Wednesday along with my live scan, how long until my application is approved/ I get my card?)

Also what would be the cost associated with start to finish? (I'm looking for any "surprise" costs, not the $51 bucks to the state or the live scan costs)

Signed, poor/broke/ struggling college student who badly needs a job.

Hi everyone, update for Guards who are interested in getting their Firearms permit.

26th & 27th 11:30am – 8:30pm BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit (Los Angeles/Orange County)

SIGN UP HERE:
BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit

Urgent!!! There is a nationwide ammunition shortage. Please purchase your ammunition in advance of attending class.

This permit is issued by the state and is required in order for a security guard to carry a firearm while in uniform and on-duty. The course includes one day (8 hrs) in the classroom and one day on the shooting range. In order to complete the course, you must attend the full day of classroom training and then shoot the qualifying course of fire on the shooting range. The course fee covers the classroom time, the instructor’s time on the range and the use of one firearm in order to qualify. Students must pay for their range time (typically around $10.00) and pay for their ammunition. Students who bring their own firearms may use any ammunition they wish. Students who use firearms provided by Practical Defense Systems must purchase their ammunition at the shooting range.

A little review of the courses...

The actual courses are what you would expect, not to boring at all...

The one thing EVERYONE SHOULD DO, is but the 8hour course first, go through it and then file the information with the state.

THEN buy the 32 hour course and finish it...

DO NOT BUY the whole 40 hour course, you have to complete the entire thing before you can print out the cert, so if you are like me and wanted to submit the 8hr course and then finish up the rest of the 32hr course you are out of luck...

Other than that everything was good...

Just a quick for these PDS guys, did their GC and Exposed Firearms classes down in San Diego the last couple weeks.

Well organized, great instructor that knows what he is talkin' about, and we had a great experience with them.

Will use PDS for further training and certifications.

fyi
Update on BSIS processing time for mailed in GC and Firearms permits...

From date of mailing from SD to online status verification of permit issuance was seven (7) weeks in our recent experience.

Thanks again to the PDS people, have done a couple more classes since our March post and appreciate their expertise.

[QUOTE=teh.killer.of.zombies;9626034]How much is the class total including applicable fees for the following:

The complete required 40 hours for guard card.

And the exposed firearm training..

I'm currently out of work, I have about 6 years customer service skills and great person to person skills. I take nothing to heart, so my question is if I change career paths what's the average salary for armed guards?

Depends on which Company you work with and the post orders.

Depending on the location you may work at can be $9-$13 unarmed and from $11-$20 armed

All depending on the PPO you work for as well as what contract they have will determine the pay rate for that Post.

Hope this is somewhat helpful
