Default Youth 20 gauge Shotgun

I'm asking for some recommendations from the users of this forum. Looking for a youth shotgun in 20 gauge where the manufacture readily provides the parts need to convert the gun to an adult model with little expense. Thanks for the help.

Take a look at the Remington 870 youth model .Replacement stocks and barrels are easy to find.

i agree with say12 with the 870, but dont get the youth model. get a express magnum the kid will do fine. i got a 20 gauge 870 when i was 10 and shot it with no problem i moved to full sized 12 gauges before 13. im not a big guy im 20 now 6' tall 160 lbs so im positive full size will be ok

ps... get a pump it teaches them to have to pay attention to the gun while they shoot intead of just keep pulling the trigger

i have a 870 20 ga youth. one day my 4 year old boy or 2 year old daughter will use it i spose. right now i like the short barrel and short stock for hunting. it swings so fast. im 6-1 250, the short stock doesnt bother me.

I'd say to start off with a Rossi single shot or something like that. Love the 870 but my preferences tend towards single shots for teaching kids. All depends on the age though. How young?

A 20ga pump kicks about the same as a 12 ga semi. I would recommend a 20ga semi or a 12ga semi if you can't find the 20. I grew up on a 12ga browning b2000. No issues with the recoil. It had a short barrel for 2.75 and a longer 3" barrel. The short barrel was perfect. That being said, in a couple year I will get my daughter a little 20 ga semi. The resale on kids guns are awesome.

I like the 20ga semi auto's for young shooters. A buddy of mine who is older and has a smaller frame has an Escort youth model that shoots really nice. Not very expensive, I think he paid around $350 new in synthetic stock.
