No tats here. I never understood why boots fresh offa Perris Island got them, though....it was always especially funny when the same boots were kicked out for some reason or another. Now, not only do they have to live with the shame of not being able to hack it, they get a visual reminder of it every day.

The closest I have to a mil inspired tat is a traditional Mjölnir with the letters JFO (Joint Fires Observer) in runes on it.

I thankfully avoided the moto tats. Which is surprising considering I have a lot of others that aren't related to my service.

I've yet to aquire Stockholm syndrome. Not that I hate the corps, just most of the people in it really waste oxygen.

The moto tat thing is pretty annoying to me. Even worse/funnier is USMC going down the back of the arm, and their last name on the other arm. Boots...

LOL...yeah, pretty much same here. When people get out and become super motards is just dumb. These were also the same guys that were waiting for their chance to get out.

I respect real motivation and tasteful moto tats. Regardless of your branch/job, you have the right to be moto. It will be a lifelong change to you, whether you like it or not. Wanting to display your pride in service is not bad as long as it doesn't go too far.

Being a motard, however is of course stupid. Becoming motivated after eas, is even worse. You can bet the contents of your safe (or boat), that won't happen to me.

One thing that has always got me is that some of the best marines you will ever meet, are the worst on paper, look the worst during inspections, and have more njp's than you can count. Very few of those turds are the hidden gems, but when you find one, respect it. I've known a few of these types, and I'd trust them to tcob far more than any motard with a reem of positive paperwork. I'd trust them to run towards the fire to help anyone. They tend to embody the corps values far deeper than most others.

Anyway, if you're going to be dumb, don't be stupid.

Edit: we had a CWO4 come from lar to be our new BMO, and part of his first speech was "yup, I've been a lance twice and a pfc twice".

I was in 24 years and no tats. Not because I wasn't down for my branch of service, mainly because I'm allergic to needles.

What's really funny is when they get tattoos before boot. I went through with a couple of knuckleheads who thought it would be a good idea. They got extra special attention from the CCs.

You know, I always thought that it'd be ok to get a moto tat.....after you get honorably discharged.

At least then you don't have to live through the shame of seeing it permanently on your body for the rest of your life if you get BCDed, or under other than honorable.

We had a guy in SOI put the Mission of the Marine Corps Rifle Squad on his back---the whole thing😵. He got booted after popping on a drug test before we even graduated. Never got a moto tat myself, not sure how I never woke up with one after some of the Liberty ports we went to.
