The carbine is very nice, just two little details: it should have a high-wood stock, and I think I see a "M" on the magazine catch, it's hard to tell, but if it is there it is an upgrade part. Still, a very nice, desirable, and valuable m1 Carbine. The CMP auction status adds to its value.

Very nice CMP birch stock on the M1 Rifle.

I got them a few weeks ago, just been to lazy to post pictures. The auction said it was a Rack Grade but I think its a bit better then that. Yeah I was wondering about that M haha. (was hoping it was just an upside down W, loll) I'm not sure about the stock but you can see a WRA marked right on it. Its my second Carbine from the CMP Auction, probably the last too, the other is that Rock-ola I put pictures up some where around here.

Anyways thanks for the comments.

It was graded a Rack Grade because of the amount of barrel wear. Nice looking Carbine

Yes it has an M but from all my research it stand for the First modification. If you have one with a M that is underlined that is the 2nd modification. Also on the underside its marked with a W, which would be Winchester and on my NPM Carbine I have one that is also marked M but on the otherside its marked HI which would be Inland.

Yes, but the M (not underlined) marked magazine catches didn't appear until the 5.5 million serial number block. A Winchester carbine in your carbine's serial number range should have a plain-faced catch marked "W". Yours is a Winchester magazine catch, but a later one. Again, a minor point, still a nice carbine.
