Default My first C&R, 1942 91/30 Izhevsk

I know it's nothing special, but it's MINE! I can't wait to shoot it! Need to clean it and get some ammo for it. Problem is finding some ammo around here. I may just have to order a spam can to get going! Here's a couple quick pictures I snapped this morning. Excuse the poor quality and flip flop in the pictures lol!

I'm really excited to own a piece of history!

*Disclaimer, I tried to post a reply in the Mosin picture thread, but I couldn't because it was too old

Yes, SlickGuns always has info on deals, usually from Sportsman's Guide. And just get the crate. You'll be glad you did

yeah I keep going back and forth between 1 spam can or two. I feel like I should just do two, even if I shouldn't spend the money.

Excellent choice! Keep in mind the spam can ammo is magnetic and most ranges won't allow you to shoot it.

^This

I bought a crate from Sportsman's and can't shoot it because it is steel core/steel jacket. And there are new signs at my local BLM range that those are now prohibited.

20 rounds of winchester just cost me $32

just read through the regulations of the range I'm a member of. only ammo that's not allowed is tracers and armor piercing... says nothing about magnetic.

Get a rubber butt pad on Ebay and throw it on. Just save the original, especially if it matches. The metal butt plate is punishing.

I went and shot about 25 rounds of surplus ammo through it yesterday. It was VERY cold and windy, so my shooting really sucked, but man was it fun! Amazed at the accuracy of this gun being 71 years old. I also noticed that the surplus ammo is no fun to clean. It was DIRTY in there after I got done. A quick how to on clean it, on youtube, and I was good to go! I has very happy with my purchase, but it's true, that metal butt plate is murder! Rubber pad coming up!

I love shooting my 91/30 too. As far as the surplus ammo goes, I always carry some windex when I shoot corrosive ammo. Spray the chamber, and inside of the barrel until it is running out the muzzel. I have found this to negate the corrosive ammo, and makes cleaning a little easier. How far out did you shoot your Izzy?

My range is at arrowhead fish and game here in the mountains. I was shooting to the end at a metal torso.. I want to say its 250 or 300 yards. When I got home, I immediately did the Windex thing, and followed up with hoppes...

Very cool! That is a good distance for my mosin too. There is a guy on youtube shooting a 91/30 at a metal torso at 1000 yards. Its pretty awesome to watch. I really would like to push my shooting skills and shoot mine at 1000+. But that means a drive to 29 Palms...maybe in March.
