Cleaned a bungload of 9mm and .223 brass.

Going to load up a bunch of .223 since I can't find any pistol powder.

150 rounds of 45 colt:
RCBS 225 45 cal RN plain base over 6.5 grains of Red Dot, seated until they looked good, to be shot as a plinking load in my 460 X Frame.

10 pounds of boolits from 7 pounds of range scrap, 1 pound of wheel weights, and 3 pounds of Linotype.

RCBS 2 cav steel 45 cal 225 rn
NOE 5 cav aluminum Saeco #315 copy in a plain base 30 cal 175 grain flat nose
MP molds 4 cav brass 45 270 SAA copy in a plain base with round hollow point pins (also have penta and flat point capability).

Once I got all the molds up to temp, they dropped nicely with just a tap or two of a rubber hammer on the hinge pin. I need to clean up the 30 cal mold a bit as it has some gunk that is leaving tiny missing parts in the bands of the boolits. The NOE was custom made in Utah, and the MP was custom made in Slovenia IIRC. They are the Cadillac of molds. The RCBS is commercial but is pretty old and works great. They all cast a tad oversize so I can easily lube size them to work in my guns.

I have smelted about 500 pound of lead over the last week. Some of it was already in large ingots but too big for my 20 pound pot. I made 4 ingot molds from aluminum channel and angle. The ingot weigh in at 3.3 pounds each. I have had the fish fryer and dutch oven for a while, but just decided to go for it. I had a few hundred pounds of used bullets that I have picked up at the range. There was around 7 gallon size cans of them and they were taking up a lot of space and using my extra containers. I ended up with half a 5 gallon bucket of jackets from all that range scrap. Hopefully the local scrap yard will take the copper.

The 30 cal boolits will make 160 yard and less plinking loads for my 30-30 and 30-06. They will run around 1300 fps with herco shotgun powder and will have light recoil and sound more like a pistol than a rifle. The cost.................7-8 bucks per 100 for the powder, primers, and propane and boolit lube to make the boolits.

Just finished my last pound of bullseye (from 1984) that I got a deal on from a fellow CG'er- Little over 220 shells of 12 gauge with 1oz reclaimed shot from Raahauges. 17.5 gn of Bullseye in AA's gives me 1250+ FPS.
Now onto giving red dot a try.

12 gage slugs that I'd cast some time ago. These are powder puff loads made for attacking paper targets. 1 oz. Lee pushed by 19 gr. of Red Dot you can shot them al day long without harming your body.

I set up a toolhead on my dillon 550 for 5.9 grains of unique behind a 230 grain xtreme bullet. I was surprised that all 5 of my test powder drops consistently dropped exactly 5.9 grains of unique!

If you stabbed someone with theses bullets, would they be considered shot?

That's actually a great question, I can think of some Brady Foundation people that would be suitable test subjects ( of course I kid)

Reloaded 45 Colt with Trailboss and 250 gr LRNFP. This was my first caliber conversion on the Hornady LnL AP with case feeder. I got off easy but yet still had valuable experience and confidence-building, since I converted from 45 ACP to 45 Colt.

I changed my die set and the lower powder drop assembly. I didn't need a change in primer. The only bullet feed change was adjusting for case length. I changed the shellplate and finally the powder charge. That was it.

I could have saved at least an hour of the afternoon and secured a bit fonder memory of the experience, if I had remembered to sort out any Hornady cases, which are shorter, when from factory FTX bullet ammo. Those can be reloaded but only with a separate setup. I wasn't immediately keying in on why my bullet insertion and crimp were inconsistent.

I have ordered some FTX bullets to be able to use the Hornady brass, but essentially now think of Hornady FTX ammo as not reloadable (or worth buying). The "Custom" line ammo with XTP bullets is better for reloading. Also, Hornady seems to be more committed to supporting reloading with XTP bullet availability. The FTX in many calibers is unavailable except as loaded ammo, making the cases into throwaways or relegated to the back of the shelf, hoping for a better day or some other bullet idea (if you like constantly sorting fired cases). Turns out that for at least 45 Colt there were some FTX bullets available, so I bought a few hundred. I believe I will reserve those for my Henry rifle.

You could load up the short 45 colt cases, but you will have to do a batch at a time as you will have to adjust the seating and crimp dies. They would be great for a powder like trail boss. As long as you don't compress the trail boss, you will be fine. I use trail boss for light 460 loads, which is just a long 45 colt, for the most part. I am assuming you are shooting them in a revolver.

I heard about the short hornady brass and decided against using it as well. The short brass is kind of a stupid idea, as far as I am concerned. People have been using the standard length brass for many decades.

Thumbs up

250 45ACP from sooted brass to finished product last night/early this morning. 230gn XTreme HP (they aren't really HP, but hollowed out, nice round ogive). 5.0gn of HP-38. Made a handful of 5.2 (almost max) - weighed all powder... Took forever. Usually, I prep brass, and load the next night... I shot quite a few 4.8 gn of the same setup the other day, and wanted to try just a little hotter. They were my first 45ACP.. (Please check your load data with IMR/Hodgden).

I setup a toolhead for my 550 to reload 30 carbine. I have one toolhead for sizing and another for powder and seat/crimp.

I loaded 57 rounds with cast boolits from an RCBS 115 spire point gas check mold. I used hornady copper checks for these, but also have aluminum checks. The powder is 11.0 grains of 2400. Primers are winchester small rifle. This load is 1668 fps average with an 8.2 fps standard deviation. I think I ran 10-15 rounds over the chrono of this load. I think I have used it at 100 yards and consistently hit a 12" steel plate. I want to try it at 165 yards also.

This load would run $9.70 per 100 rounds at current powder and primer prices. I use range scrap lead that I pick up, but have to pay for boolit lube, gas checks, and propane to melt the scrap lead. I can shoot the M1 Carbine for the same price as my 9mm reloads.

Approximately 60 30-06. My first loads for the caliber, it took me a while to get the dies set. I ran out of brass or I would have kept going.

Hxp once fired brass, decrimped, 47.0 gr of IMR 4064 pushing a 150gr Sierra Spitzer.

in preparation for my 6.5 creedmoor build by Spartan Rifles...I have 20 rounds of Hornady Factory Match ammo in 140gr for "break-in," sight-in, etc.

I loaded up the following for OCW testing and eventual ladder testing @ 200 yards.

Brass: Hornady
Primer: CCI BR2
Powder: H4350
Charge weights - (3) of each: 41.1 - 41.5 - 41.9 - 42.3 - 42.7
OAL: 2.800" - will be messing around with seat depth eventually relative to the ogive
