Serious lack of Colts on the 1911 thread. Don't post a pic unless its the real deal.

Here's an oldie but goody. I believe it was made in 1930. Anyone got an older one? It shows it's wear proud, was made well, and is still a shooter.

My grandfathers Colt 1911 bulls-eye gun. 1960 CMP Distinguished Pistol Shot.
s/n: c142xxx - 1925. It was re-blued in the late 50's I'd love to find some original grips and magazine for it.

My Commander, purchased used with the scratch. I have since applied some cold bluing liquid and it's hardly noticeable.

One out of a few Colt 1911's. When I get around to it, I'll post pics of the others....
This had some aftermarket and Colt Custom Shop work done including refinishing, ambi-safety, and new grip safety. Original Colt barrel, slide, and frame.

only photo of all the colts together
2 Ser 80 MKIVs, 1 Lightweight commander blue. Brite stainless Delta, when i bought the Delta, the shop alss had a used Delta gold cup blue same seller. $200 more. like a retard i didnt buy it. also I sold a delta back in the day in a fit of serious stupidity coinciding with a cash deficit. who knew then theyd be impossible to get. Combat Special is a 1 of 500 and a parked 1991A1 commander. i'm probly gonna send one of the series 80s to Colts for the model O package. every time i get $500 or so extra togther i end up buying another gun and not sending it to Colts... coulda had a stainless CGNM for under 1k last year.. again still kicking myself picking up a sig 228 out of 10 day hell tomorrow ! if i could just find a 38 super commander under in PRK >>> Last edited by ElToro; 08-20-2010 at 11:09 PM.. |

Colt Series 80 - Yost-Bonitz 1* Elite(One-***-To-Risk)
Yost-Bonitz customized 1* (One ***-To-Risk) Elite Colt Series 80 1911.
I picked up this baby from a consignment. I freaking LOVE IT! I'm a huge fan of the LTW forums and always drooled at these custom builds shown off there. Previous owner put only about 400-500 rounds through it, it was a bit dirty but I gave it some real thorough TLC with some poly-safe Gunscrubber, Weaponshield CLP, and Brian Enos' Slide-Glide all over. I love keeping EVERY firearm I own pristine and lick-ably clean. I took these photos with my Droid Incredible phone, so they're lousy. But it shows you the cool 1* logo and the fit and finish of the barrel and bushing and all the parts. After having this in my hands, I'm thoroughly convinced I'll probably only buy 1911s from now on. Preferably custom Colts |

Is that King's beavertail a drop-in version, or did it have to be fitted?

That's a fitted grip safety. It needs a 1/4" radius machined concentric with the safety pivot, and a lot of metal removed from the frame around the web of your hand. I do the radius on a belt sander with a jig I made, and the rest with a 3/8" carbide burr in a foredom tool, finishing it with sanding rolls, files flap wheels, and sandpaper.
I also relieve the safety to move the hand even higher about another 1/16" than the stock King's safety, and also checkered the pad on the safety. All in all by the time it came out of the bead blaster I've got about 8 hours into it. It's the second one I've done. If you look higher up in this post you'll also see my Officer's model I did the King's safety and some checkering to. The front strap checkering is the real time investment. You need to be OCD to take this on without F*ing it up... |
