I think that is a Thunder Ranch Special. Wished I could afford the Premier II 1.5 inch.

I believe Les Baer outsource their refinishing jobs, so I would actually recommend that you get the pistol, and then send it off to Tripp Research to have it done. Quite a few people have gone that route on 1911forum.com and reported they got it done cheaper, and the pistol was smoother and you can actually break it down to clean it without having to shoot 500 rounds through it first. Acuracy and fit was not effected and still shoots as promised. Of course if you go this route, the factory 1/2" guarantee might not be honored after the chroming...

There's a chance that you'll void your warranty if you don't go directly through Les Baer since some parts might need to be refitted, I called and asked after I read about it at M1911.org

Those are three VERY nice looking 1911s you've got there, I'm in awe. The rear sights look very Rogers-esque though -- I had heard Rogers was going to work with a manufacturer to market a production version, are those said sight or am I imagining things? (I'm going to assume you didn't send 3 already top notch pistols to one of the most heavily backlogged 1911 smiths in the world.)

I hate Novak sights. IMHO they suck and are non-functional (one handed malfunction drills). All my 1911's wear Hilton Yam's 10-8 rear sight. The rear sports a U notch and is fast to pick up. I will not use anything else period on my 1911's. |

Just bought this one today at the auction in SF. It's a Colt Commander Lightweight in .38 super. Had the original box and papers included.
Anyone know how I can tell what year it was made in? The serial number is 523XX-LW. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

A serial numer of 523XXLW would indicate a manufacture date of middle to late 1967, which would be correct for that box. ( "Colt's Dates of Manufacture" by R.L. Wilson, ISBN 0959199101 - Page 40 under Commander Model. // The same info can be found in R.L. Wilson's "The Colt Heritage" under plate 10 at the back of the book, right facing page, ISBN 0671248278. A brief description appears on page 244 of that book. ) When I saw your photo, without checking my guides, 1968 instantly came to mind because of the distinct small gold-script wood-grain looking box is identical to the box for my own 1968 Commander and my 1968 Colt Python 2 incher. VERY nice gun - and in .38 Super! You done good!! .

What auction? Now, the only stuff I could find in my quick look-round was on ColtAutos.com. They didn't have serial number info for the LWs though. They did have the following info on the regular guns: Quote:

Oh yeah and I also picked this one up. It's a Colt Argentine Model 1927. All number's match on the barrel, slide, and mag. It's in Ok condition.
I'll post up my SS XSE that I picked up last month tomorrow |

I believe all "stainless" models offered by Kimber are of satin/stainless finish. The stainless Gold Match is the only model w/ the high polish finish similar to what SA's, etc offer. |

Unfortunatley no, it was "de-holy'd" by the previous owner among other things. On the upside, it still shoots like a 70GC; glass trigger, accurate, etc. I plan to give her a makeover eventually.
