Why is 22LR sold out?
I have a Walther 22LR TPH. I was looking for some ammo recently only to find the 22 ammo sold out aven at a local gunshow recently. One small gunstore near where I live has the ammo but restricts how much you can buy at one time.
Is the reason because AR's are made into 22? Of course those are on the maybe hit list with Dianne Feintsein. Is that the reason? I assume so, but I may be wrong. Please correct me if I am wrong. thanx to all who reply. |

Ha, ha! Yeah, I never get the anti argument about having a "stockpile" of ammo? All of the mass shootings within memory utilized a few hundred rounds maximum and most with far fewer. Nobody can carry more than a few hundred rounds on their body so what does it matter if someone has 500 or 5 million rounds in their stash?
Even using idiotic anti logic, I don't get it. |

1) Prices on everything else went nuts, so people starting stocking up on .22
2) This makes prices on .22 go up. Marketplace has a seller asking $70 for a 525 bulk pack, seriously!? 3) Supply and demand. 4) There are still deals out there, but you have to be FAST. Four boxes of Federal 325 lk coming to my house today for about $15 each. |

Right, I guess the ones for $40 are a real bargain

No the pre-panic price of $25 to $30 was much nicer. No way will my 100 boxes last through the day at $40 each. I probably should have made them $50.

Maybe the 22 uppers for ARs, maybe the ammo companies stealing employees and equipment to run more 223. Maybe a nefarious "maintenance shutdown" to artificially drive up prices like the gas companies do. Whatever the cause, it's damn annoying.

.22lr isn't sold out. Bulk pack .22lr and the stuff that runs 3-8 cents a round is hard to find because it's cheap so people bought it up right away. The expensive match stuff like Eley team/match/tenex/etc. isn't hard to find at all. Bulk pack .22lr still pops up on occasion if you keep an eye out for it.

.22lr is the most popular round world-wide.

I have a 525 I just bought at walmart today. I heard ALL 22lr makers will stop making ammo and their all going out of business. Its got to be true! I heard it from the walmart clerk myself!
Anyways, I'll sell it you for only 525 dollars. Best price in on the net! but seriously, Look around, you'll find em. I havent bought 22lr since 2006....I think I still have about 10-15 bulk packs...Not for sale though.

just about every gun mfg. makes a 22cal type of gun be it rifle or hand gun or both.. very popular caliber
BUT... ammo mfg. ... don't make all that much money making a 22cal rd as oppose to let say 223/556 9mm or 45 |

I heard that CCI produces a 2.5 billion 22LR per year
If you do the math and divide that by 1800 Wal-Marts in the US (Yes I know that not all Wal-Marts sell ammo, but just hang in there) It breaks down to 7.25 bricks/WalMart/day. 7 bricks a day per Wal-Mart store! And we have excluded Big 5, Dicks, Cabelas, Bass Pro and your favorite local gun store from this. If we assume similar production numbers for Remington, Federal and Winchester, the availability really doesn't improve that much-- call it 29 bricks per day total for those Wal-Marts or whichever way you want to divide it up. And you know we have folks out there ready to swoop on whatever pops up. We took an awful lot for granted before this panic hit.

All of the ammo I have bought in the past few months have been in quantities of 2k or more, a lot of the dealers have had it in 5k quantities as well. You do have to be ready to pounce, it sells out in a matter minutes.

A friend's Dad's boss told me that ammo is hard to find because of the brewing civil war between the parties of Socialist Invalid Whiners and the Capitalist Hoarding Swine. I'm neutral, so I wouldn't know.

Stopped by my local LGS, he has 10K of stuff on order and distributor can only fill 900.00, rest is on backorder. Not sure who his main distributor is. Place is stripped of all semi-auto pistols, unless you want some old use .25's. Stripped of all revolvers, even quality consignments.

It just struck me that after the coming collapse, bullets will be the new currency (you can't eat or shoot gold). Figure that a .22LR will be like a nickel; a 9mm the new dime, a .45ACP like a quarter, and so on up through .223 then .308.
So, a few thousand rounds of anything is like money in the bank. (jes' ramblin', here)

Better than gold and silver. Ammo is a perfect investment as far as I'am concerned. As a baseline, everyone should have: .22 CCI 5,000 rounds 9MM 2,000 rounds .45ACP 2,000 rounds .40 or 10MM (in my case) 2,000 rounds 5.56/,223 2,000 rounds .308 and 7.62x39 1000 rounds each. This is ammo you never shoot. A minimum you own and store. Ammo above this baseline can be shot, sold, reloaded, traded or hoarded. heheh Store your assets properly. If you're not into ARs, but do run AKs, just swap the amounts. Also, we need to be able to manufacture (reload) our ammunition. Be sure and have the equipment (I have two Dillon machines) to do this. Powder, primers, boolets..etc....be self sufficient and flexible. In tough times ammo rises in value. With all these anti-second amendment, low information politicians trying to ban ammo, tax ammo, limit ammo and control our lives, let us proceed to be self sufficient in independent. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
