My wife and have our permits coming due so we completed our training on Wednesday night, 15 February. We scanned the required documentation and completed the online application on the afternoon of Friday, the 17th.

Both approved today, Tuesday the 21st. "Please come pick up your new license" says the email. Wow, that's quick!

A few points:
They need your training certificate, drivers license or ID card, and TWO forms of proof of residency scanned and uploaded for the application.

There's a section for you to articulate your reason for having the CCW, my wife did hers before I did and she stopped at this point to call and ask me what to put down. She was concerned that it would need to exactly match what she had before. I told her to just put "continued personal protection", and I did the same.

Other than some wording here and there, mostly on the first page after you click renew where it goes into intital permit costs, the online process is very well done and super easy to do.

I used the option for text message updates. I got the first one within minutes of clicking submit. The approval notification came at 10:00 his morning.

Did I say it was fast?
Thanks for this detailed renewal information ... mine is coming due in a few months and I like how this new process works.

One question though ... Do you also just pay your renewal fee as well online during this process with CC, etc.?

I added a handgun last night using the online system. I think it's more work for us than before, though I'm sure it's easier for FSO.

EDIT: Filled out the request online 4/19/17 and submitted at about 7:32 PM, Text message confirmed submission at 7:33 PM.
4/20/17 11:33 AM got text I was approved see email. Email at 11;34 AM saying I can pickup my permit.

Has anyone seen any any recent numbers of currently active permits in Fresno County?

Default Fresno *** TIME TO APPLY!!! ***

The latest I have is from the Police Science 2017 CCW handbook. It shows 7449 for the year 2015. (The highest of all California counties)

Looking to renew as my license expires 8-3-17

How soon do I need to get this process started so I make sure this no overlap?

Also is the renewal easier and how does it work now with the new online process?

Thanks

I made a mistake with that, I picked it up early a month. So if u expire in Aug, do your renewal in June or July but pick up around aug.

I wanted to share with you my experience applying for my Initial CCW application with Fresno County Sheriff's Office and also include a timeline and cost to provide a perspective on my experience:

Saturday 5/13/17- Attended my initial 6-hr CCW Class. - $65.00
Monday 5/15/17- Applied Online w/ Fresno S.O. and Paid fees. - $119.66
Tuesday 5/30/17 - Interview with Detective at Fresno S.O. and Livescanned.
Tuesday 6/20/17 - Received Approval Email and Final Payment of fees- $94.97
Wednesday 6/21/17 - Picked up Permit: includes CCW I.D. and Paper Permit.

Overall, my experience went very smoothly. The process Online was not difficult at all. Throughout the process they notify you via email or text msg. on any update. The staff at Fresno S.O. CCW Dept. responded promptly to my email questions and the interviewing detective was cool and very professional.

I hope your experience will go smoothly as well. Carry Safely!

Wow, what a timeline! I got mine back in February but it took almost 9 months. Fresno is getting better all the time. The Sheriff's department does a really good job.

I am moving to Clovis and am told I should go through the County? What is the minimum length of stay until I can apply and what works for proof of residency? Automobile registration?

Thank you! Looked at the website prior, didn't see anything regarding minimum amount of stay or whether a vehicle registration suffices. Thank you!

Yes if you're moving to Clovis then you should go with the county. I have never heard of a minimum length of stay. If you're worried you could always call them. Sometimes it is a little hard to reach someone, the few times I have called they have been extremely nice and helpful. When I got mine 2 years ago my drivers license did not match my current address. When I filled out the forms I put my current address and was never even questioned about the difference. Of course take this all with a grain of salt since a lot can change (and has) in 2 years.

Renewal was about as simple as it gets.

Go to renew online, fill out the basic info, add your 1-4 handguns then upload your renewal certificate, copy of your DL and recent utility bill, registration etc., pay the fee via CC online as well and your done. (took about 15 minutes)
2 days later it was approved and you go pick it up at the live scan office at the main jail (I was in and out in 10 minutes with new license) and that's it!

FYI .. if you go past your expiation date they will renew no problem within a couple months. So if for some reason you cannot renew within the 30 days prior to expiration don't worry they will take care of you for a while even after it expires.

Piece of cake ... 2 more years of carrying safe and smart!

I promise I'm not going to vent about how patently unfair it is that, with a similar crime rate, Alameda County will likely never allow CCW for its law-abiding citizens.

I just moved to Fresno county from the Bay Area, does anyone know is there a minimum residence requirement prior to application? Also where/what is the boundary line for city/county application?

No minimum requirement to my knowledge. Just get the County Sheriff CCW and you are covered no matter where you live as long in Fresno County.

Did you get another email that your permit was ready? I got one to pay fees, paid them and got the receipt from permitium. The site seems to say you pick up (bring ID, yadda yadda) but the emails say they will be mailed. The gal at the front desk in the SO office said I'd get another email that it was ready to pick up.

Hi there Blackandredwarrior: I don't recall receiving an email that the permit was ready. I just paid the Final Fee and receiving a text that all fees are paid.
I just went to the S.O. office and it was ready, just signed for it.

Anyone here has their permit from the city and went over and got one from the county? My permit expires next August, so I have some time to decide. FPD and their CCW detectives are great, but I really like how easy and convenient it is to renew with the county. If the county lower the fees for the initial, I might do it. Sheriff Mims mentioned that they will look into lowering fees.

Permit came in today's mail.

4/2/17 - Qualified
4/4/17 - Class
8/21/17 - Interview
9/8/17 - Approval & Fees Paid
9/28/17 - Arrived in Mail

I think I could have picked it up in person on 9/11/17. The receptionist said I'd received a mail when ready but someone else posted they picked it up. Should have just walked over to the jail.

Now for the interesting details. During my interview I found out that 12 years ago someone reported my vehicle at the scene of a vehicular burglary. The investigator said that charges should have been filed with the info they had. I don't know if he was bluffing to see how I'd react or what. I was initially denied for failure to disclose. They rechecked the report and there were prints lifted. They went ahead and sent me over for LiveScan. As I was a suspect I'm not allowed to know any details about the case. No idea what if anything was stolen. Investigator gave me an address that I had never been to (it's now a field that was prepped for a housing development that never happened). I don't really have any crazy exes so who knows what's up. But obviously my prints must have come back clear.

I was told the same thing when I renewed in September. Have yet to see the photo ID which was supposed to be mailed at a later date.

Hello,
I wanted to ask if someone knows the answer to this. I currently reside in Fresno and have a valid Fresno County Sheriff's Office CCW permit, issued just this year. I am in the process of moving to Clovis, CA and was wondering if my permit will still be valid? I know I have to submit a change of address, but with me moving to Clovis, do I need to re-apply for Fresno P.D. CCW?

Thanks Citation650, I just heard back from FCSO and they did confirm it is still Fresno County, and all I have to do is a change of address online and I am good to go. Thank you.

Default Fresno County Sheriff’s Office lead times 12/7/17

3 business days from submitting all documentation online. Submitted on Saturday the 2nd, Got the email on the 6th, picked up on the 7th.

FYI the new service they’re using makes the date you pick up the new card the new expiration date.

That means if your old expiration was on the 20th and you pickup on the 7th, your new expiration date is moved up to the 7th. You forfeit your original expiration date. That’s how efficient they’re becoming.

Don’t be concerned about renewing early. Keep it as close to you can to your original date.

And for God's sake do the Utah non-resident, theres no reason not to, especially now with NV accepting the permits.

****That's the end of this public service announcement.******

Just to get this started for my CCW initial:
CCW Class - 12/2/17
Applied online - 12/8/17
Interview - 12/27/17
Notice for approval and finial payment - 1/25/18

Ill update when I know if I pass and get the CCW.
Very easy process if anyone is on the fence, DO IT!!

My approval would have been a done a couple weeks earlier, but there was an issue with the s/n on one of my pistols. Not a big deal just a typo in the process.

11/4/17 Took CCW class.
11/5/17 Applied on-line for interview and uploaded requested documents.
11/20/17 Interview + Livescan (took about 1 hour).
12/15/17 Permit approved and paid final fee on-line.
12/26/17 Permit arrived in the mail.

There does not seem to be an option to pickup the permit in person. The system says that the permit will be mailed to me within 4 weeks.
