Default Hoslter sales restricted?

Has anyone come across a problem purchasing a holster on-line? I have tried both Cabela's and Bass Pro for a cheap CCW kydex 1911 holster, and both tell me they are "restricted from selling them in Ca."!
WTF? Is this yet another new law or are BP and Cabela's just being anal?

When in doubt, it’s probably a prop 65 warning label problem. Doesn’t matter if it’s a holster or kid’s bouncy ball, it probably “causes cancer” and needs a label or it can’t be sold in California.

Just call and simply ask in a polite tone. odds are they will tell you it does not have a California warning on it. Or it may be as simple as people outside of California don't like us anymore thanks to our governor and politicians who don't care because they are exempt from the laws we have to live under.

I did call. She told me after a bunch of "hold on, let me checks", "we aren't offering CCW holsters for sale at any of our Ca. stores so we don't sell them on line to Ca. customers, either". I haven't been to a "local" (70 miles away closet)
BP in a while so I don't know if they have any in stock.

Thanks. I checked them out. A lot of stuff. But a full-size 1911 IWB would be a no-go for me. It's hard enough getting myself inside my waist band.

That's a BS excuse, they have them in Manteca, and Rocklin, but it sounds better than "I don't know" I guess.

I agree that answer is BS, completely made up from whole cloth. The sad part is, it is believable to many people because of this ruined state we live in.

I know the City of Los Angeles bans the sale of holsters for small handguns. It's been that way for decades.

Literally everything.

Have you not seen the stickers on every single thing you buy?

It is a "warning" that is so over-used that it has lost all meaning and no one even pays any attention to it any more..

Applies to listed chemicals that are used in any product that is imported, made, or sold in CA.

Right. But back to the original point, someone suggested it could be why the holsters aren't sent to CA... Im not suggesting it is, but that's about the only thing the proposition does - limits stuff people are willing to ship to CA...

Similar to gun laws - i don't blame a merchant for not following all the goofy rules, they just don't ship there (hell, I don't even know all the goofy rules anymore - I have a bunch of "compliant" parts to sell and don't know if they are even leal anymore).

It doesn't surprise me that CA has a hard time getting some things shipped. What does surprise me are the complaints from residents that outsiders don't know the details of their rules and don't ship to them... its your overzealous legislative issues that are the problem, not the merchant that doesn't spend time learning what hoops to jump through.

There are so many good holster makers out there, just buy from someone who wants your money.

Greetings from another Bay Area denizen OP.

I'm of two minds here. But ultimately this is a simple problem to resolve. As stated above.

On one hand, I was a local merchant here in SF for some years. So I understand this vendor's concerns. These folks are not CA based. They are not attorneys. They do not know California's constant 'moving target' firearms laws. The outcome you absolutely need(!) to avoid is being the nail that gets hammered down. Having some $12/hr box packer ship something illegal to some state and subsequently have that State's LE come after you and destroy your business and livelihood. The reasonably idiot proof, 'failsafe' solution is just what you encountered. Just don't ship anything remotely firearms related to CA.

As amply demonstrated here however, this doesn't always result in the best 'customer experience'.

Particularly in light of the current circumstances. These are good times for these folks. The Cabella's and Bass Pro's of the world, these folks are making, bank(!), right now. Right now, they just don't need the headache.

That said, there's also so many, much nicer and so much easier to deal with vendors out there OP. There's just so many sources. They'll be happy to take your order. Lastly OP, please consider spending the extra $8-$10 and supporting some small/local merchant. And/or using your money to support US jobs and the US economy, almost 70% of which is derived from 'consumer demand' by buying something American made.

what makes you think its only food items.

The stickers are on many, MANY items.

I've never "looked" for them - but have often seen them. I take em off.

You know what though, I really am grateful for those stickers. I used to just lick the carbon fouling away with my tongue because I thought that was clean enough. But then those stickers saved me and showed me the way.
