Default El Dorado National:Mormon Emigrant Trail

Wow, this place is tore-up! Every regular spot is full of brass and shotshells never mind vaccumes, car parts, you name it.
I would like some area shooters to help me out. Rakes and shovels are better than signs and bans.

Nice, I would hate to hear about how shooters are destroying National Forests on the news. Hopefully we can get a few more hands so it will go quicker and get some trigger time too. Is Aug 11th good for you?

I would love to help. However, I will be in Clear Lake with the family that weekend (last chance for family vacation, before D3~5 bow season begins).

Unfortunately that weekend is bad for me. So if the date floats to something different, please send me a pm and I will make the time.

I will have to bump the date myself. Work is picking up and mandatory Saturdays are back. I will repost the next date.

Have not heard anything either. I don't normally travel up Hwy50, too often, but would be willing to help and possibly get in some plinking afterwards.

I plan on going up to get some range time. I am unsure of the coordinates but will get them this weekend. Plan on the following Saturday the 8th for the clean up. I will have more info about exact location Sat night, stay tuned. This is a great spot to shoot so stock up on ammo!

Unknown coordinates.
Directions are as follows:

1)Highway US 50 exit #60 Sly Park
Right off exit on Sly Park Rd.

2)Take left on (Mormon Emigrant Trail - Silver Lake Rd.)

Drive over dam and continue down road and you will see a few streets on the (R) like Ferrari Mill Rd and Bonetti Rd. Keep on going...

Go by Capps Crossing Rd and pass the next road, Bryants which is where the forestry info bill board is.

Pass the next closed forest entrance gate on the (R) at the top of the hill.

3)Turn into the next (R). It is an unmarked dirt road at the bottom of hill with a large opening. I will leave a sign saying Calguns.

Follow the unmarked road to the top of the hill, you will get to a flat dirt area with lots of shooting spots, I'll be in the Xtera at the range to the (L).

This is a popular spot. The landmark is an old dead white tree about 130 yards off to the (L) in the hill side.
I'll be there 12:00 noon.

Work emergency has come up again. I have to cancel the clean up. I will start a new thread when the opportunity rises again...

Problem with setting up a clean up date (Especially this late in the season) is that the Forest Service closes that road in Winter.. so unless you have keys for the gate, we won't get far unfortunately, Though I live all the way up in Tahoe so to get down there to check if it's open is a bit of a drive for me... But count me in, just post a date and time and I'll be there.

Has anybody checked if this is still open? I was thinking of trying to find this place this weekend. Never been there, but as I live just down the road I figure I should figure out where it is.

I will check it out next time I go by that way with time. We should have two weeks of no rain coming up.

Anyone thought about contacting the FS to organize an entry for cleanup? Or is it private land?

I went 2 months ago when there was light snow and could not find this spot. The directions were a little vague. So we just went down another dirt road and found a nice berm, shot for a few hours and picked up our brass and targets. Any point in google maps that makes it easier to navigate to?

I still have not been out that way, it's too bad that people always leave all of their trash. I saw a spot last week that had 4 tv's in it. But that seems to be the way it works, the responsible cleaning up the mess of the irresponsible. I remember when I worked down in Santa Barbara close to the glass factory, if it wasn't for volunteer cleanups, that place would've been shut down on the first wild fire it started.

I always thought of bonneti being about 2 miles on mormon emmigrant off of sly park on the right after the Forest service info sign(their is red spray paint on the asphault at the moment), no where near north/south road like the directions above, ive been shootin their for 10 years, im down for a clean up but it wasnt really that bad last weekend. Ill have to check out the spot up by capps crossing. I've never seen that picture posted above, interesting!

Hey guys I can help out a little bit. Wife and I have been hauling out a few trash bags each time we go. I am physically disabled so I will not be as able bodied as the next guy but still wanna do my part as a Calgunner and El Dorado County native. Gonna take a rake next time though, i think that will get a lot more done than a cripple bending over the whole time lol. I can't believe these people just leave all this good brass too. And the trash just infuriates me. Let me know when were going up next please
