Default BLM Clean and meet 3/30/13

**** We are at max capacity so there are no more spots for this clean. There will be another next month. Thanks for the interest!***

Good news! It is all but guaranteed that we will all be on the same site together. We have been able to "reserve" this area (dont ask). Mr. Funk will be made aware of this event and may stop by to meet us. Meet at 0900 and drive to site as a group at 0915. Since the meet is almost at the clean site, arrange carpools accordingly.

This is a trashed site and is going to require some real work. Not much in the way of large trash, but lots and lots of small stuff - shotgun wads/skeet waste, .22 brass, broken glass, etc. Gloves are a HUGE plus for this event.

Rakes and shovels are great and sieves would be helpful. I was thinking of cutting the bottom off of 2 5gal buckets. Wrap some wire screen around the bottom of one and jam it into the other one. Should be a fine mesh size. Just a thought.

- Looking for 12-14 individuals assuming 2 per ride. If you can bring 3 or 4 per, the additional hands will be appreciated.
- If you want to help out, contact me directly via PM so there is no confusion. Ill do my best to get back to you within 48hrs.
- No posting true names/phone numbers/vehicle description/the location/etc. on the open forum. PM ONLY!!
- 4WD will NOT be required! This is actually one of the easier areas to get to. Good ground clearance is always recommended, but if you made it to my last event you can make it to this one. Your vehicle will be parked at the clean up site.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
- Bring water! Id recommend a gallon per person. YMMV
- Eyes/ear protection MANDATORY if you stay past the initial clean
- Sun protection. Chances are it will be quite warm
- Snacks are a plus

Wal-Mart has some rakes in the garden area that work really well for small debris. Five bucks and change, if I remember correctly. It's a small "shrub rake" and works much better than the normal size rakes.

See you all there!

Look forward to seeing you again!

Something I was told is that if you use tape (I will have a roll at the event) to close off the spaces between the teeth, it becomes more efficient at moving smaller trash, like .22 brass.

Cheers all!

Hey. Count me in on this one. I've got some gloves (3-4 pairs) an will bring some buckets, shovel, and a rake too if I end up picking one up at Walmart.

Count me in. I'm driving down from Escondido, so if anyone's coming down from North County and wants to carpool, let me know.

Another great event, both in attendance (15) and trash haul!

Many thanks to NoNOS67; mq9reaper; MG34; desertjosh; eightmd; ShotShell-207; jeff r; 1EasyTarget; Sentenza; shooperman, Felix, Ryan and others unnamed who did an outstanding job in getting after LOTS of small items like broken clays and glass, plastic shotgun wads and spent .22 casings. This was a tough clean! Funk payed us a visit and was extremely enthusiastic and positive about our endeavours.

Great work, everyone! Just got done loading the trash in the dumpster...wow! I knew the truck was heavy when I pulled out of there, but unloading it confirmed that we took a LOT of trash out of that place. Thanks again for coming out, it was a pleasure meeting you all!

I was back out there this evening. Still pretty clean. The "road sign" I thought was up near the top of the slope turned out to be a 20" x 20" aluminum plate covered in reflective white tape and attached about half way up a cactus stalk with a beer bottle upended on the top of the stalk. The stalk is what we thought was the support for the "road sign". Now I feel stupid.

Also saw a target on the top that was a 5' x 2' x 2' wooden crate. This thing was right at the peak of the ridge. I found the pile of new brass that indicated where they were shooting at it from. From the shooters to the target and straight towards the facility. Any misses would have been in a direct line towards it. It looked like mostly .223 / 5.56 so I don't know whether it would have made it that far, but it wasn't very smart for the shooters to have taken that chance. BTW, that crate was heavy carrying it back out to where my pretend truck was parked. My girlfriend laughed at me the whole time I was struggling to carry it. I must have looked pretty funny.

Awesome job! I'm bummed I couldn't make it out but hope to next time. I always try to clean up but usually only have room for a bag of my stuff and a bag of other people's leftovers, always looks better than before but can only fit so much in a bag

Wow, you hiked all the way out there? I guess it was worth finding out what "road sign" it could've been haha... Good job man. And good thing you took that crate down too... who knows who else might shoot at it and maybe with even bigger bullets that could make it over to the range. Glad to hear that the spot is still pretty clean.

Good to hear! Glad all that work lasted more than a day.

That was a hell of a hike. Thanks for the effort.
