2 shot draws
I try to go through a couple magazines every day on this target. Out of the holster @ 10 yards I put one round on the 8 inch plate and one round on the 6 inch plate as fast as I can. This drill builds my speed out of the holster and accuracy for the 2nd shot. My par time for this drill is 1.75 seconds.
I've found that knocking the center out of an NRA pistol target does build marksmanship but it is too easy and boring (for me).

I will play with some #throwback...
First time at Front Sight - took the 4-day Defensive Handgun last December with the Wifey. The Skills Test with a completely stock (sights and trigger are unmodified) Glock 19 Gen 3 - "Snowman" and "DG" (Distinguished Graduate)... Cheers, _ Last edited by rodralig; 03-28-2019 at 7:53 PM.. |

This is the Skills Test the morning of the 4th day - distance is from 3-meters all the way to 15-meters. Doing a search in CalGuns, someone had posted the test (all from a concealment garment):

Oh!!! Must be late in the day for me... My brain isn't working anymore
Whoa!?! 4-days is a lot of information - but in a nutshell, it was a good experience. Had lots of fun, and finally got my Wife into shooting (she was a complete beginner). The kids were there, too, but they took the 4-day Children and Youth Achievement... Hhhmmm... I am not really good with an after action report - so, would suggest looking at this YouTube where a couple of students go through the curriculum: Do go - it is a nice and educational experience; if just at the least, just shooting in the desert for 4-days... Oh, BTW, am going back there the end of May for both the 2-day Tactical Handgun and the 2-day Advanced Tactical Handgun classes... Cheers, _ |

Better yet, subscribe to the FS thread in CalGuns. You can post questions, etc. and the regulars at Front Sight can provide better insights, tips, help, etc. than I can... Some also offer some vouchers and memberships so you may be able to attend the classes for free (or at least a minimal fee): https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...d.php?t=518454 _ |

Funny you mention the TS as I get my off roster CZ TSO out of jail Tuesday I have a CZ Shadow 2 now but I still can't shoot like that I blame some of that on being 77 and my parts just are not as steady as they once were LOL... |

Congrats on your TSO sir! It is a lot different (better IMHO) than the Shadow 2. Just a tip, I wear my reading glasses to help focusing on the front sight... the paper target is blurry but as long I center the front and rear sights against a blurry paper target, I’ll achieve a decent group |

I wear progressive lenses as well. For some odd reason reading glasses works better for me. YMMV. |

Interesting... I get mine from the VA, the next time I go in I will ask if they have something specific to shooting...

50 rounds of 45 acp controlled at 10 yards. 3 mags between reloading. Definitely started yanking a bit on the last couple mags. I suck. But working on it.

Testing a new projectile and load. This is out of my CZ SP-01. Chrono'd at 1040 FPS. Pretty happy with accuracy. The 2 fliers were all me. This was handheld. No rest.

Good shooting! I can't see that 1" dot at 20 yards. Not even at 10. that was over the iron sights?

Haven't been to the range in some time so my wife and I grabbed a few 1911s and headed to The Gun Range this morning. She took her .45 Kimber Gold Match and I took three 9mm 1911s; a Dan Wesson Valor, NHC Heinie Signature Series, and STI Marauder. If you haven't shot a 1911 in 9mm, I highly recommend it. So easy and comfortable to shoot. This was a few mags out of each gun, slow fire at about 7 yards. My wife didn't save her target, but I thought this was pretty ok for an old fart with arthritis. Nothing spectacular or fancy, just practicing the basics:

The old lady needed some space, so I spent this Friday afternoon at FT3 in Stanton with my two S&W K frames. Shooting DAO and try to get familiar again with their triggers especially since I've been primarily shooting my 1911's for the past couple of years. My old reloads still seem to work which made for a nice experience.
Targets are 10 yards away and shot standing without support with my model 10. Happy Friday Calgunners! |

Below is a Ruger Vaquero with a 3 3/4" barrel, birdshead grip in 45 Colt. Has a color case hardened frame and blued barrel and cylinder. This was a limited run of the original Vaquero built on the heavier Blackhawk frame. This was my first time out with this particular piece.
Below I was shooting Fiocchi 225 gr. ammo at a bit past 8 yards for the top two targets, 15 rounds apiece, and at 10 yards below that. Below is at 15 yards same ammo. Not great shooting but not bad either. A fun piece. tipoc Last edited by tipoc; 02-07-2020 at 10:42 AM.. |
