Default Safari and adblocker

Running a Mac desktop with the latest OS. Tonight I opened Safari and immediately got an apple message that said one of my extensions is no longer compatible with Safari. Knowing that it was about adblock I clicked OK then went to Fox News. Within 2 seconds I got these pop up windows that filled my screen. They made no sense. They said something was coming and then a silver triangle like a large B17 bomber came at me and the window closed. The multiple windows lasted maybe 4 seconds.

After it closed I got two pop-ups telling me flashplayer was out of date and needed updating: just click here to download. NO WAY! Then another window about out of date software: click here. NO WAY. Then finally to Fox. GEEEEZ what a mess! Ads every where. Breitbart was even more of a waterfall of ads.

So-with adblock gone what do I use with Safari? Also can I use an adblocker program on my smart phone? So many ads on it that I can barely scroll without opening an ad.

ps: I use Firefox for Calguns and adblock works with it but I turn it off so CG can earn $$$$. I'd like to stay with Safari as it has more features that I use.
