Saw that last week in big 5 by my place. Guy said they had just gotten ok to reshelve. Corporate decision or something. The guns had been in back for some time.
I'm tempted but mag availibility is a concern.

They never stopped selling the 22s, they just didn't put them on display until a few days ago.
Regarding orders for Mini 14s, mission hills Big 5 has had that sign up for a couple months. I asked the manager if they had been getting them in. He said no, but when they did start getting them in, they would call the people who had put their name on the list before putting them on display. I was planning to pick up a M&P 15-22 and ordered a couple mags some time ago. I decided to pass on the rifle, so if anybody needs some mags, I'll let them go for $65 shipped. Pm me if you need them. |

Good to see the shelves filling up again. Turners are also filling up with arms and ammo.

Saw what looks like a MK22 hidden in the back rack at Big 5 today, but could not see the price. I was pressed for time and could not get the price or counter person to help as he was in the side office on the phone. With a $40 off coupon what would be a good price for this MK22?

Not since the 80's. I worked in the Santa Rosa big5 during college. Saw the old 4473's and other paperwork but they were long since gone by time I started.
Interestingly though they would never carry milsurps then. Nor anything even remotely away from hunting or plinking except for short barrel shotguns.

I bought an HK MP5A5 and a Savage MKII TR. Both worked great at the Glass Factory clean up today.
I didnt get to shoot as much as I would have liked too due to some over zealous centerfire guys destroying my target stand. Some guys dont have range etiquette. They thought nothing of turning their firearms at my PVC rimfire target 75 yards away and before i knew it the stand was riddled with damage and collapsed. Up to that point the Savage MKII TR was drilling a baseball I had suspended from line and I was twirling a aluminum pot left and right with ease. The HK MP5 was good too, it was fairly accurate and I was hitting the pan, but I only got off 2 magazines before the stand was dead. |

Last month I walked into one and was able to purchase 2 Marlin 795's. After my 11 day waiting period, I went for pickup. They had a Savage Tactical (64?) That wasn't there originally. They wouldn't let me add it to the current dros, so it stayed there.

I got so tired of chasing .22LR and 223 ammos that I bought a Wind Rifle in .22 and .25 cal. And i found out it also comes in 9mm, 357, .50 cal what the heck! Now no more chasing for me but hoarding on a "pellet round"

SIG522
I put a SIG522 in jail on Friday at Big 5. Here's a hint if you are looking for one. I called the one closest to me and they did not have one, but the Manager did a computer search of their network and located 3 stores in the area that had one or more. I drove a few extra miles and got one. They are not really putting anything but shotguns and regular .22's on sale right now. I was in a rush, so I can't tell you everything the 522 comes with there but it does come with rails in the box. I hope it comes with sights, but I am not counting on it.
After researching I decided on the 522 based on reliability, compatible ammo types, form-factor, looks, build materials, non-proprietary mags, etc... I will probably still pick up an AR conversion bolt, but at least I won't need mags. In related news there are Black Dog mags around now for $13-$15 plastic or steel feed lips, and Cabela's has the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on sale for $79 - might be on backorder now but price is good. I checked out that Savage 64 they had on sale for $179 and it looked pretty solid. The Big5 I was at also had one each of the MP-5 clones (ATI, HK), and Escort MP-A, various pumps, etc... no ammo to speak of. They did have an M&P 15-22 which was very expensive. Cordova has some for $549 - don't know how many, but their stock looks good overall. Check their new web site and the usual monthly PDF for specials - which is updated many times during the month as they sell stuff and add stuff. Good hunting. AR's
I'm sure some Big5's had AR's like Century's AR's...
I remember them carrying the most horrible AK's I have ever seen a year ago or so. Romanian parts kits on a US receiver with crappy glued mag and no pistol grip for about $600. I passed. |

I was there today picking up my SIG522, and they are still stocked to the gills - shelves totally full but no ammo, plus they probably have multiples of most every rifle in back. Manager said that .22 is coming in now and other calibers and selling out in a few hours. Good sign. It'll be caught up someday soon. That pic by TS is a great deal for that SIG522. Here in the Sacramento area they are going for up to $529. BUT that is not a bad deal at all considering the rifle came with front and rear sight kit, plus rail kit. The two kits would cost $100 plus shipping from SIG. If $499 buys the same extras I got, that's a great deal considering most people who pick one up for $400-$450 don't get sights. For those researching the 522, they no longer come with the SIG hardcase, FYI. I've only gotten to fondle it so far, but it is pretty sweet. I'm waiting for my Bushnell TRS-25, so I mounted a Sightmark Ultra NV QD on it and it seems perfect for it, so I might leave it.

I've got a plenty of federal bulk and automatch and other various bulk ammo for the SIG, and Rugers (but I've had that saved for 5-10 years). I am running low on ammo for my picky guns like CCI Mini-mags for the Walther P22. Should be enough till the supply catches up.
Not Mini-mags, but there are local places that stock 2-3 brands of .22 for $5 a box. Cordova has Thunderbolt, American Eagle, and CCI Blazers lately with a 5 box max on each. River city has had CCI Blazers too. Various Sacramento area shops and ranges have had decent deals on the 375 packs for around $25 - when Cordova gets them in they are $39. That's still too much for me. I'll wait for the bulk packs at regular prices before I stock back up. In the mean time I am rationing like everyone else who has some, but having another gun that eats anything is a plus. Last edited by crufflers; 05-27-2013 at 11:10 PM.. |
