"It would also allow them to carry inside U.S. Post Offices, Social Security Administration offices, and Veterans Affairs facilities without having to disarm and secure their firearm elsewhere." <--- This is good.
When I was still with my department, I had to keep my pistol in my car when I went to the Social Security Admin office. I thought it was a rather ridiculous regulation. |

I'm sure the "Progressive" BLM apologists in the Congress will stall or vote no on this...
Hope it gets through.

I can see pushback on this from leftist politicians who already have a personal phalanx of armed security and have no interest in helping a voting block that generally does not support them at the ballot box.

Don’t hold your breath...I’ve heard some of there own cops say can’t carry off duty. Not sure if that varies from island to island... |

I must regretfully report that I visited Waikiki late last year, and it was in a sorry state. Very dirty and crowded with homeless encampments all over the place. Not nice, not safe, just your typical urban blight with a nice ocean view.

So you spent 4 hrs on a plane, spent a buttload of money. Just to wind up in Venice Bch.

Hawaii is the last state to visit out of all 50 states. I visited 49 states so far. I thought about going there this year. Is it that bad?

There are many amazing things to do on Oahu besides visiting those two areas. All of the other islands are each amazing in different ways too. |

I hate to contradict myself, but I will admit its all a matter of perspective. There is some amazing fine dining and some pretty amazing architecture in Waikiki. The reason that I avoid it all like the plague is because I don't need to fly to Oahu to get that experience. In California we have LA and San Francisco for a very similar experience.

No. Thankfully it was only a one day outing as part of a multi-island cruise. The other islands (Kauai, Maui, and Big Island) were all fabulous.

No doubt! I’m planning on registering a certain handgun there when on vacation in a few months. The state now requires a $45.00 payment, registering the particular gun at the local PD office, live scan fingerprinting and 10-round or less magazine limitation.... all just to carry concealed while on vacation as an off duty LEO! How stupid!
But my buddy did it recently. It was painless. In and out in about an hour. Then once you’ve done it with that specific firearm, you can bring it back to the Island year after year because it’s already been registered. ...because we all know that it’s the off duty cops (and the Donald according to Fake News) that are the root of all evil shootings in this country. I feel so much safer now in Hawaii.

Yup, Maui and the Big Island for lots of activity and great beauty. Kauai for the ULTIMATE in garden beauty, but less to do (perfect if you want to do nothing but lay at the pool or beach). But Oahu just sucks. I told my buddy at work that it’s like going on vacation in San Pedro! AVOID OAHU ALL TOGETHER! I’ll never return there. The Big Island on the east side is lush, but near Hilo it’s a complete $h1+ hole. But the west side resort about 25 miles north of Kona is great. West side of the island is like the Mojave desert, literally. East side is the rain plush side. We liked the Big Island. Kauai is all plush but limited in activity when compared to Maui. But stunningly beautiful. Maui is still my favorite. You start to learn where your personal favorite spots, eateries, bars, beaches, lagoons and activities are on that island and that’s why we return there time after time.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. How can Hawaii be the only state that requires registration carrying under LEOSA? Is this an issued weapon versus owned weapon issue?

LEOSA says guns can be carried in all 50 states off duty by LEO, but states can “red tape” the procedures to do so. Those states can claim that they’re not denying the carry by LEO, thus complying with LEOSA but they can inconvienience the crap out of them. i.e. Hawaii. Also restricting mag capacity is also allowed. Oh well, so I carry spare mags. That doesn’t upset me much.

Alright I just read all the Hawaii leosa info on there AG website. I don’t think they could make it any more burdensome for retired guys. The way I read it is that their rules only apply for state and municipal carrying under leosa but active federal can avoid the local check in because leosa is not needed.
