SB 249 AMENDED AND SCHEDULED FOR HEARING ON JULY 3!
IMPORTANT CRPA MEMBER ALERT
SB 249 AMENDED AND SCHEDULED FOR HEARING ON JULY 3! Help Stop SB 249! We are calling on you again to voice your strong OPPOSITION to SB 249! Call, write, and/or email your Assembly Member, Senator Yee’s office, and the Assembly Public Safety Committee. Contact information is available below. SB 249 – Ban On Possession of Magazine Release Parts Bill Author: Senator Yee, D-San Francisco senator.yee@senate.ca.gov On June 21, SB 249 was amended to include language that excludes owners of registered assault weapons from the provisions of SB 249. Don’t be fooled by this move. This amendment does not fix the problems created by SB 249 for owners of semi-automatic firearms. The bill has again been referred to the Assembly Public Safety Committee and IS SCHEDULED FOR A HEARING ON JULY 3. CRPA and NRA are working to stop this bill; please use your collective power as a CRPA member to voice your opposition to SB 249 and help to defeat it immediately. SB 249 began its travel through the legislative process this year as an agricultural bill. On May 22, after the time for introduction of new bills had passed, SB 249 was fully gutted and amended into a bill that now proposes to restrict magazine release components in semi-auto firearms. The bill suddenly changed into its new form following a CBS news story focusing on some semi-automatic firearms. CRPA’s concerns regarding SB 249 include the fact that it would make it illegal to possess parts for magazine releases on most semi-auto firearms with detachable magazines. There are hundreds of thousands of firearms that may be impacted by SB 249. These firearms are legally owned by California residents. SB 249 could potentially make criminals out of law-abiding citizens. IMPORTANT NOTE: You may find that some senators and assembly members try to reject your contacts if you are not from their district. Please don’t be deterred by their attempts to silence you! Let them know that you have the right to contact them and that you will continue to contact them when there is a Second Amendment issue pending before the legislature. IT IS A DEMOCRATIC PROCESS AND YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE HEARD – DON’T BE SILENCED! Please contact Senator Yee, your Assembly member, and make sure to contact ALL of the legislators on the Assembly Public Safety Committee and ask them to OPPOSE SB 249. Incorrect.
The legislation as currently worded calls for the surrender of all affected firearms before the implementation date of the law (if it should become law), and without compensation and without opening a registration period.

Isn't there some sort of law saying that a so called crime committed before it was actually an Illegal act isn't punishable? ie. People buying and owning BB Ars before the law is passed to make them illegal.
