Default 2013 CA AB 1020 - Bonta - Firearms: letter to purchasers - FAILED

5/24/2013 - Bill did not pass out of Appropriations committee before deadline - dead for this year.

----
Would require DOJ to send a letter to purchasers during the 10-day wait informing of laws on gun trafficking and safe storage.

http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...arch_keywords=

Quote:
AB 1020, as introduced, Bonta. Firearms: letter to purchasers.

Existing law prohibits a firearm from being delivered within 10 days of the application to purchase, or, after notice by the Department of Justice, within 10 days of the submission to the department of any correction to the application, or within 10 days of the submission to the department of a required fee, whichever is later.

This bill would require the Attorney General to send a letter during the 10-day waiting period to each individual who has applied to purchase a firearm informing him or her of firearms laws relating to gun trafficking and safe storage, as provided.

I'm sure CA DOJ would be real happy for the extra busy work that generates no new funds.

You sure did, but just in case you forgot, we need another useless piece of legislation.

Good idea actually.

No fees for us... costs them money in postage..... Helps keep the doors of the US Post Office open.....

Win win.

However, before you return to sender, tape the letter to a brick to up the postal fees....

I would almost guarante that if passed, there will be a bill to increase DROS fees annually, to keep up with the cost of postage.

Bills have to state what fees would be in the submission. This one didnt show one. Though the summary was cut short apparently.

Read any of the official threads on these new bills. Look at the summary, down at the bottom. They have to fill out if it has a cost, if so, where it comes from. If it generates revenue, where the money will go, if it requires local programs, etc, etc.

How much does it cost when your doctor writes a letter?

How much does it cost when your lawyer writes a letter?

Add those two up, multiply by three, and you have how much it costs the government to write you a letter; and then they'll charge you twice as much.

So, every purchase will come with a threatening letter from the government?

Nice!

Oh, they'll be happy to add $50 to the DROS fee to cover it.

Just watch.

I'll just shred it and send it back to Bonta's office. It will be worth the extra 50cents and give me something to do while I wait for my gun to get out of jail.

Not a good idea since they're using the address you used on the DROS and might infer that you used an invalid address and deny. But you can write "Refused" on it which serves the same purpose.

With a member name like 'postal' you should already know that USPS is not required to deliver such a thing, and may (and will) trash it.

I would fold it, put it back in the envelope and return it to him with instructions to turn it sideways and stick it up his candy ***!

Will be interesting to see what happens if this passes.

Remember, when it comes to abortions, a required ultra sound prior to abortion was ruled unconstitutional since it represents "advocacy of policy." A letter from DOJ certainly falls into "advocacy" category, so what's good for the goose is good for the gander...

If one looks about closely and critically, we are threatened by government on a daily basis. This is nothing new.

Pop in a DVD? First thing is a threat from the FBI.

And I was taught that the proper response to a threat is a instant challenge.

How far we sheep have come.

ETA: Tired of being threatened by this worthless, do-nothing, predatory government.

sounds like Bonta is mad at DOJ and giving them busy work. should be interesting in determining how many extra DOJ clerks will be needed to do this useless job and you can bet the letters will never go out in under three months. however it might save a postal job or two just hauling those useless letters around in the trucks.

The state can't afford everything and brown wants his legacy to be fixing the budget. As much as we want to break the DOJ financially and logistically Brown won't be signing this and there's no longer a super majority to trump that.
