Default "No consent to search, warrant required" magnetic sign for your gun safe door

Moderators: I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this post. If not, please move. Thanks.

A few weeks ago, I made a 4x3 inch magnetic sign for my own personal use on my gun safe (picture below). It basically says that I give no consent to search the contents and that a search warrant is required if they wish to do so. Should law enforcement ever arrive and demand to see the contents of my safe, I can simply peel off the sign, since it's magnetic, and hand it to the officer. By law, that becomes a piece of evidence they are required to catalog. Then it is no longer my word against theirs that I did not allow them access.

In another thread, I mentioned this magnetic sign and there was some interest in it, so I offered it up for sale on Zazzle, the site I created it in the first place. Since I originally did this only for myself, I said that I would donate the 100% of the royalties (about 50 cents for each one sold) to the Calguns Foundation. So far, a few were sold and there is $8 that will go to GF on my next donation. I'm not out to make a buck, just out to promote liberty and our rights among the Calguns community.

I created a couple of options, one with a reference to an attorney and one with no attorney reference. I also created a luggage tag to use on a gun case or range bag. They are all available here:

Is that really necessary? Why wouldn't you just not open the safe?

Cool idea. The Calguns crew had something similar that I picked up a year ago, it's like the luggage tag you mentioned that basically says the same thing and goes on your gun bag/case with the CG logo on it

I wouldn't want them to see my imploding bazookas and nuclear bombs.

Thanks. I saw this photo a few weeks ago in another thread and it was the inspiration for my magnet. I think this was just a decal and not a removable magnet sign. And I've seen them talked about but never seen them for sale on the storefront, so I made my own.

The purpose is to be able to easily peel it off and hand it to an officer. It then becomes evidence they must catalog.

What label?

If it has any point, paint it on the locker and have the mag label as well.

??? I obviously cannot paint it on your locker or gun safe. Feel free to do that on your own. I'm providing an easy means to obtain a removable magnetic label.

Perhaps you are being intentionally obtuse. I always allow for that. If they want in, they will get in. A magnetic label will end up on THEIR fridge.

I wouldn't allow anybody access to my safe either. I'm on your side here...

However, I'd like to know where it is "required by law" for the police to book something into evidence just because you hand it to them. The investigating officer will decide what has evidentiary value, not you.

As above... There is no requirement for the police to book something into evidence simply because you handed it to them.

In addition a sticker, or sign cannot invoke or give up a right... Only a person can. So even with this magnet on your safe a person with the combination could legally allow a LEO to search it's contents....

If a condition of probation is consent to a search by law enforcement at any time, Then he has already consented to the search by agreeing to the conditions of probation..... So a silly sign or sticker would not be relevant.

I think part of the idea here was that if you told the officer that you were taking the fifth, that by talking you might have given up that right. The courts declared that hooey at some point - you can say "I'm invoking my right to remain silent" without having to mime or use signs or other shenanigans. At this point I don't see the value of the sign.

PS I think it was also intended for range bags, not safes. The safe is in your house. If they've already gotten that far it's not like a traffic stop where they might run into a locked container more casually.
